Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement ice class steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 16.3m beam and a 5.1m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 4,989 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.

Construction started in mid 2017. Launched in August 2018 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in March 2020.

Exterior Design

Olivia O's exterior is defined by a reverse bow, an element that distinguishes her silhouette and enhances her seafaring capabilities. This bow design, part of Ulstein's X-Bow technology, offers improved performance in harsh sea conditions, reducing pitching and enabling more comfortable transit at higher speeds.

Olivia O's structure is arranged over five decks, with a bridge positioned high and forward, offering commanding views and aiding in navigation. The exterior spaces are planned with functionality in mind, with adaptations such as an extended draft at the transom to facilitate smoother tender operations and mitigate the impact of waves. The yacht's practical design is complemented by a host of features suitable for an explorer vessel, including a midship tender garage on the main deck, an open pool area at the stern, and a certified helipad for easy access by air.

With a draft of 4.4m and a top recorded speed of 16.6 knots, Olivia O is equipped to handle diverse oceanic environments. Her design reflects a balance between the rugged demands of an explorer yacht and the comfort expected of a luxury vessel.

Interior Design

The interior of Olivia O has been designed with an emphasis on a rationalist style, focusing on simplicity and functionality while still achieving a high standard of finish. With the guidance of interior architects Droulers of Milan, the yacht's internal spaces have been configured to reflect a blend of industrial and oriental themes, executed with a disciplined approach to design.

Materials play a pivotal role in defining the aesthetic of Olivia O's interior. Four types of wood are utilized throughout to demarcate different areas, creating a clear visual hierarchy between the living quarters. The woods are strategically combined to distinguish the guest decks, with light and dark tones offering contrast, and then harmoniously integrated in communal areas such as the living and dining rooms.

Metal is another key component of the interior design, utilized to echo the industrial character of the owner's shipping heritage. This is evident in the steel-framed windows and painted metal ceilings that run along the corridors, contributing to the yacht's coherent industrial theme. Bathrooms forego traditional marble in favor of a specialized resin designed to replicate Italian terrazzo, a choice that aligns with the yacht's overall theme by providing a robust, yet refined surface.

The commitment to a straightforward and sophisticated design philosophy is further evident in the avoidance of overly ornate elements. The interior spaces are characterized by their clean lines, subdued color palette, and the strategic use of textures to add depth and interest. The long corridors mentioned by Nathalie Droulers enhance the yacht's sense of scale, while the ample ceiling height in guest areas contributes to an airy and spacious atmosphere.

For entertainment and relaxation, Olivia O includes a spa and gym, reflecting the active lifestyle of the owner and guests. While these amenities are designed to be functional and serviceable, there is also a larger cinema room to accommodate the family's preference for shared movie experiences.

Additionally, Olivia O boasts an almost fully-enclosed upper deck with full-height windows, providing panoramic views while sheltering guests from the elements. The yacht's wrap-around glass bridge stands out as a distinctive design element, further setting this vessel apart in terms of aesthetics and function.

Furnishings within Olivia O have been carefully selected or custom-built to align with the yacht's design ethos. Italian designer furniture is complemented by bespoke pieces crafted by Merritt of Ohio, known for their quality craftsmanship.

The cabins are notable for their generous height, measuring 2.70 meters, akin to that found in luxury hotel accommodations. Within this guest capacity, Pullman bunks are included, providing additional flexibility in guest sleeping arrangements.
