If you want a boat for short day-trips or long lazy days on the water, returning back to port at night, this is the place for you. Lots of open deck space but limited shelter.
A yacht that can look after you and your guests for a night or two, with cabins, a toilet and shower compartment, galley and space to relax, day or night. Good seakeeping ability for port-to- port trips.
For longer stays onboard, and longer passages at sea, you need a more capable, better equipped yacht with increased space to the cabins, living areas, galley and storage.
Long days on the water require clear, safe and open decks, storage space, some dry shelter and cooking and toilet facilities. A comfortable and capable hull to tackle offshore waters is also a must.
Highly capable and seaworthy yachts with overnight accommodation for two or more nights away from port. Deep, safe, and practical decks with good stowage and bait wells. Speed and range are key, with a flybridge or tuna tower to increase visibility.
A yacht of significant ability, not just size, able to not only cross oceans but also tackle long passages and all sea-states. Long periods at sea require plenty of space and comfort for the crew or guests. Most of these yachts are larger and may require a Captain.
Exploring the far reaches of the world by yacht is a serious business, requiring highly specialised vessels that must be capable of spending long periods at sea, in all conditions, leaving little or no trace behind.

New yachts are complex things, part vehicle, part home, and part luxury item. As such they take time to build. How long this takes will depend on the size of the yacht and the builder's construction style.
Highly automated yards can produce a 12m yacht in a matter of weeks, while a small handcrafted builder might take a year to create the same size vessel.
As the size increases so does the wait, so a 60m superyacht might take two or three years to build. In between our 12m and 60m yachts you will find lots of different build times, the important thing is to ask the dealer or builder how long it will take, so you can manage your expectations.
Of course, it might be that you can find a stock boat that is readily available or a yacht that is already in production. In both cases, you will have less say on the final fit and finish.
There is a rough rule of thumb that says you will need to find an extra 20% of the yacht’s base price for optional extras. This figure can be seen as a base, with the percentage quickly increasing if you choose larger options such as stabilisers.
New yachts come with peace-of-mind warranties to the hull, engines and component parts. The length of the warranty will change from one brand to another. Some yacht builders offer lifetime hull warranties, others perhaps five years. Two to three years is usual for engine warranties, while most equipment will come with a 12 month cover period.
Buying a new yacht grants you peace of mind in terms of warranties, but the relationship with the dealer is usually key. It is the dealer that will make things happen, should they need to, but also simply be your conduit and adviser on day-to-day matters.
For the larger builders with dealer networks, the builder is not usually set up to deal direct to owners (outside of a glass of champagne at a show) and so expects the dealer to manage all customer-related enquiries or issues.
Smaller yards may deal direct with owners, with some very personal relationships built between owner and yard.
No matter the actual relationship, if you are buying a new yacht you should expect full support and communication. Never be afraid to ask a question and always check if there is uncertainty. In fact, the dealer or builder will want to hear from you, their livelihood is based on relationship and so keeping in touch with a customer, and keeping them happy, is exactly what they need to do.
