Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull she features a 14.4m beam and a 4.29m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 3,243 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. She was delivered to her owners in October 1981.

Exterior Design

It is said that the late Stavros Niarchos, the Greek-American shipping magnate who commissioned the build of Atlantis II, insisted that the yacht be constructed longer than Aristotle Onassis's yacht Christina O, as a way to outdo his rival's yacht. The exterior designer Caesar Pinnau was given a brief to create a yacht that would outshine what would become the most famous yacht in the world.

Atlantis II stands as a classic yacht with sleek lines that still command attention despite over four decades of active service. The mast and funnel are elegantly aligned, creating graceful lines above the superstructure. The proudly raked bow lifts to shape around the stem, leading to the high-sided foredeck. The superstructure extends to the sides at the forefront of the upper deck, providing navigation balconies for the bridge. A helipad on the upper deck was a rare feature at the time, designed for ease of guest transfer.

Reflecting the styling of the 1980s, the safety aspects of the yacht are evident but do not overshadow the overall structure. The busy aft deck of the main deck is a highly functional space, with cranes, tenders, and rescue vessels, providing guests with a genuine sense of being at sea as opposed to the 'penthouse with a great sea view' feel of many modern yachts.  Steps on either side of the aft deck lead down to the expansive guest area on the aft lower deck, featuring a pool and the benefits of shade from the above deck overhang. An elevated deck aft is above Atlantis II's rounded torpedo-style stern.
