Royal Huisman announces plans to build world’s largest sportsfisher yacht Project 406

The Dutch shipyard has officially unveiled Project 406, which at 52m (171ft) will be the world’s largest true sportfisher yacht.

Significantly larger than even the biggest sportsfishers on the market, this high-speed motor yacht is being built for an experienced client who is a passionate fisherman and will be constructed with an aluminium hull and superstructure at the Royal Huisman facilities in Vollinghove.

Spread across six decks, Royal Huisman will be working in conjunction with Vripack on the project who will be providing interior and exterior design and naval architecture.

"It is most energizing to know that our upcoming launch of the striking motor yacht PHI will be followed by this awe-inspiring Sportfish Yacht” said Royal Huisman’s CEO Jan Timmerman. “The Vollenhove shipyard which continues to be the ‘Home of the World’s Finest Sailing Yachts’, looks forward to becoming a ‘Home to the World’s Finest Powerboats’, as well – and Project 406 is the perfect complement.”

Bart M. Bouwhuis, Creative Director at Vripack, is excited about the prospect of working on Project 406, adding: “This is a true sportfisher, designed for a private Client who takes sportfishing very seriously. As the world’s largest true Sportfish Yacht, this aluminium build will be hugely technologically challenging, and we are truly delighted to work with a world-class shipyard such as Royal Huisman to bring this iconic creation to life.”

The project represents a return to its roots for both Royal Huisman and Vripack. Royal Huisman began its business building boats for local fishermen for many years after the shipyard was founded in 1884, whilst Vripack’s heritage is very much rooted in the design of sportfishers and fishing boats since its inception in 1961.

Development on Project 406 is well underway, however, a delivery date has not been announced as yet.

We are truly delighted to work with a world-class shipyard such as Royal Huisman to bring this iconic creation to life.
