Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 62'4" beam and a 17'3" draft. The yacht is built over 5 decks with an internal volume of 7,247 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in May 2024 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Breakthrough challenges conventional yacht aesthetics, incorporating a high number of hull openings. This design choice includes fourteen balconies and seven unfolding platforms, offering enhanced interaction with the sea and expanding the available space for guests. The collaboration between RWD and Feadship has led to a streamlined silhouette despite the vessel's considerable volume.   With five decks above the waterline and two below, the yacht's profile is both commanding and modern.

The yacht also boasts an 8.2-meter glass-floored infinity pool with contraflow on the "Nikki Beach-style" aft main deck, allowing for both leisurely swims and more vigorous exercise. The pool also includes a moveable glass bottom and a separate hot tub. Dual external staircases curve down to the swim platform, with extra steps descending to the spa and beach club below.

The sundeck features a forward hot tub, complemented by covered outdoor dining and lounging areas at the aft. The expansive area has many uses including as a helipad and on deck sports area.

Breakthrough revolutionizes yacht design with its hydrogen fuel cell system for eco-friendly performance, a displacement steel hull, and an aluminum superstructure for enhanced stability and a broad 19-meter beam.

Interior Design

Materials used in the interior construction and decoration include a thoughtful selection of textured fabrics and leathers, which contribute to the tactile richness of the living spaces. Marble & travertine surfaces add a touch of elegance and the use of rattan brings a natural feel to the yacht's indoor environment. Fumed and taupe eucalyptus, along with limed oak, are used extensively throughout the yacht, providing a light, airy backdrop that complements the coastal ambiance.

Among the amenities, the yacht features a semi-submerged Nemo lounge, offering guests a unique vantage point to view the marine environment just beneath the waterline. This space is designed to blend the boundaries between the yacht and the sea, creating an immersive experience. A cinema on the tank deck and a library on the main deck are included for entertainment and relaxation, offering a variety of options for guests to spend their time onboard. The presence of a hospital facility underscores the commitment to safety and well-being, ensuring that medical care is readily available if needed.

Light plays a crucial role in the interior experience, with an atrium featuring a staircase lined with bookshelves that wraps around the elevator. Floor-to-ceiling windows with clear glass balustrades offer unobstructed views of the surroundings, maximizing natural light and enhancing the connection to the sea.

Interior spaces are designed to foster a sense of privacy and seclusion, like a "secluded, four-level townhouse by the sea". This is achieved through the strategic layout of cabins and communal areas, as well as the inclusion of private lifestyle destinations at each deck level. These areas, such as a coffee corner and games niche on the bridge deck, and private dining room with a sea terrace on the lower deck, provide intimate spaces for guests to enjoy.

Accommodation

The Feadship Breakthrough yacht is designed to accommodate up to 30 guests across 12 versatile cabins. The eight guest staterooms on the main deck can combine into four VIPs for a more intimate experience.

The owner's suite spans an entire deck, making it more of a private apartment than a cabin. It comprises two bedrooms, each paired with its own bathroom and dressing room. The suite is further enhanced with personal amenities including a gym, two offices each featuring a fireplace, and a living room. A forward-facing jacuzzi offers the owner a secluded spot to enjoy the panoramic views of the ocean.

Breakthrough is also capable of carrying up to 44 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Performance & Capabilities

Breakthrough marks a significant evolution in the superyacht industry in its approach to environmental sustainability and innovative power solutions. This vessel is powered by a groundbreaking hydrogen fuel cell system, a first in the industry, offering a combustion-free method of generating electricity with only water as a byproduct. This system is emblematic of the yacht's commitment to eco-friendly operations, confronting the challenges of storing compressed liquid hydrogen below deck. The yacht's storage solution involves a double-walled cryogenic tank, able to contain 92 cubic meters or four tons of hydrogen, despite the challenge presented by the need for such a tank to be eight to ten times larger than the equivalent diesel storage.

This vessel's dedication to green operations is further exemplified by its approach to the hotel load, the most substantial contributor to a yacht's carbon footprint. By using the hydrogen fuel cells for electricity generation, Breakthrough significantly reduces the environmental impact associated with heating, air conditioning, and other onboard energy demands.

Breakthrough's propulsion system is further supported by additional fuel options, including Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and methanol. HVO serves as a biofuel alternative, producing 90% less pollution than traditional diesel. Methanol, stored under ambient conditions, offers a practical alternative fuel that can be converted to hydrogen onboard. This flexibility in fuel sources underscores the yacht's innovative approach to reducing its environmental impact.

Breakthrough houses two 900kW and three 2,500kW MTU generators (combusting HVO), alongside 16 185kW PowerCell H2 generators. Breakthrough boasts a significant range of 6,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 14 knots and a top speed of 17 knots, supported by a 19-meter beam, and Kongsberg Neptune 300 stabilizers, ensuring both efficiency and stability on the water.

Breakthrough features an 8.2-meter infinity pool, a semi-submerged Nemo lounge, a full owner's deck with luxurious amenities, and versatile accommodation for up to 30 guests, ensuring a blend of innovation and luxury.
