Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 12.6m beam and a 3.45m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 2,350 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in early 2012. This was the first yacht built on the Custom design. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in March 2014 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in June 2014.
Exterior Design
Grace's exterior design is a testament to the timeless elegance and classic nature of luxury yachting. Her stately grace and serenity are captured in her subtle sand-and-white livery. The yacht bears no pretense of ostentation, with no radical bow or hard chines to interrupt her smooth, sleek lines.
Designed by Terence Disdale, this superyacht is the second-longest built by Abeking & Rasmussen, embodying the traditional allure of a yacht. However, 'traditional' does not imply 'dated'. As Disdale puts it, Grace's design is "timeless".
The yacht's decks are designed for easy navigation and maintenance, devoid of extreme features such as balconies and full-width superstructures that could hamper crew operations. The exterior design focuses on creating an inviting outdoor environment that seamlessly interacts with the interior, offering a sense of sanctuary and connection with the surrounding sea.
Grace's sundeck is a surprising revelation, lacking the commonly seen spa pool. This intentional design choice by the owner ensures unspoiled views from the top and front of the yacht. Instead, a forward-facing curved seating area has been installed, perfect for enjoying the panorama of the approaching harbor or the majesty of the open sea.
The practicality of Grace's exterior design extends to well-placed fender lockers and a shoe cupboard just aft of the main-deck saloon, accommodating the owner's dislike for scattered footwear. Every detail, down to the design of the lift shaft to prevent unsightly condensation, has been meticulously considered.
Interior Design
The interior of Grace, meticulously designed by Terence Disdale, is an exquisite testament to the yacht's namesake quality. Living up to Disdale's philosophy that "a yacht should have more in common with a beach house than a penthouse," the decor exhibits an elegant understatement that speaks volumes about the designer's mastery of his craft.
The interior palette is a harmonious blend of light tan, cream, and pale grey, punctuated by wood and stone. The joinery and furniture, expertly provided by Rodiek, Abeking & Rasmussen's trusted interior supplier for the past 15 years, further contribute to the serene ambiance. The color scheme subtly darkens as one ascends through the yacht, with the upper-deck saloon exuding a more after-dinner, members' club atmosphere.
In line with Disdale's conviction that "the layout takes precedence over the look", Grace's design is as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. The main-deck saloon opens onto a central atrium with a lift and stairs that access all decks.
The owner's quarters, located a level above, are accessed through a private study. The bedroom is a masterful use of space, floated in an oval cocoon. The bed, unanchored to any bulkhead, is nestled into a curved art wall crafted of copper and leather. The free-standing furniture pieces provide a sense of openness, and the 180-degree forward view adds an element of grandeur.
Disdale's attention to detail extends to the service aspects of the yacht. Every piece of cutlery for the dining table is kept in a pantry in the dining room, and each entertaining area has plenty of space dedicated to staging and crew service. Practical elements, such as sensibly placed fender lockers and a shoe cupboard just aft of the main-deck saloon, exhibit the designer's commitment to functionality.
The lift shaft, designed to prevent humidity from creating unsightly condensation, is another example of Disdale's thoughtful approach. The shaft and car are both constructed of glass, with an open staircase wound around the lift. Wall-washing lights meticulously highlight the stair surround, while the between-deck spaces are faced with stainless steel for a tidy appearance.
Accommodation
Aboard the Grace guests will find an exceptional level of luxury and comfort. Grace's spacious accommodation is designed to comfortably host up to 12 guests across six elegant cabins. Each of these cabins is a synthesis of luxury and sophistication, offering guests a peaceful retreat after a day of ocean exploration.
The yacht features a full-beam master suite that is the epitome of luxury. Situated on the upper deck, it is a private haven with stunning panoramic views. The suite encapsulates a private office, a walk-in wardrobe, and a lavish en-suite bathroom. The suite's design is an exquisite blend of neutral tones, high-quality materials, and notable attention to detail, which together create an ambiance of refined elegance.
The remaining guest accommodation is located on the lower deck, comprising four spacious double cabins and a VIP suite. The double cabins are identical in design, radiating a calming ambiance with their light color palettes and luxurious fittings. Each cabin is en-suite, offering guests privacy and comfort.
The VIP suite, situated forward, is a marvel of design. It boasts a large double bed, a spacious seating area, and a private en-suite bathroom. The suite's design mirrors the elegance of the master suite, with the use of high-quality materials and a soothing color scheme.
Moreover, Grace has been designed with the crew in mind. The yacht can comfortably accommodate a crew of 18, ensuring that all guest needs are catered for with the highest level of service. The crew accommodation includes multiple cabins, a crew mess, and ample storage space for equipment.
Performance & Capabilities
Underneath her graceful exterior, Grace hides a powerful engine that fuels her performance. She is powered by two Caterpillar 3516C engines, each generating 2500hp. This potent combination allows her to reach a maximum speed of 16.5 knots, with a cruising speed of 14 knots, proving that Grace is not only about beauty but also about speed and efficiency.
Her mechanical capabilities are further highlighted through her impressive range. She has an impressive fuel capacity of 210,000 litres, which gives her a transatlantic range of approximately 4,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 14 knots. This means she can easily accommodate long voyages, catering to those who desire to explore the world in absolute luxury and comfort.
Stability is paramount when it comes to yachts, and Grace is no exception. She is equipped with state-of-the-art stabilisers, both at anchor and underway, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey for her passengers. These stabilisers also contribute to her overall performance, as they help maintain her balance and poise, even in rough seas.
Grace's technical prowess does not stop at her engine and stabilisers. She has a technologically advanced steering system, which ensures precise and effortless manoeuvring. Moreover, she also features the latest navigation systems, ensuring the safety and smooth sailing of the yacht at all times.
In addition, she has been designed with practicality in mind. For instance, a track in the recess above the guest-cabin windows makes it easier for the crew to keep all the glazing clean. This reflects the designer's attention to detail and commitment to creating a yacht that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and easy to maintain.
Amenities
Ensuring everyone on board can enjoy the water to the fullest, luxury yacht Grace offers a large beach club connected to a swim platform, with plenty of space for lounging and soaking up the sea views.
