Delivered in 1990, Grand Ocean is a 85.05m motor yacht built by German shipyard Blohm + Voss. The yacht's refined interiors have been crafted by Alberto Pinto, while her exteriors have been penned by Platou Architects.

Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and a steel/aluminium superstructure she features a 12.8m beam and a 4.1m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 1,864 GT (Gross Tonnes).
The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
Prince Khaled bin Sultan of Saudi Arabia commissioned Norwegian architectural firm Platou & Amble to design a research yacht for oceanography. The vessel features a classic white hull and superstructure with a raked bow and clean straight lines. The bow serves as a practical zone for tenders, personal watercraft, and an array of deck hardware for mooring, launching, and anchoring. A central staircase connects this area to the enclosed deck of the main deck forward.
The walkway encircling the yacht is protected, with smart teak handrails providing a distinct contrast to the white superstructure. Guests are welcomed to the aft deck, where they can indulge in lounging and socializing. Accessibility from this aft deck to the lower deck and the transom section is facilitated by twin curved staircases located behind a stylish outdoor sofa, adorned with cream soft cushions and a wooden surround.
Interior Design
Following the 2019 refit, the yacht underwent a transformation that involved shedding much of its ornate finery to embrace contemporary spaces while preserving the original charm of dark wood-paneled walls. The result is a sophisticated blend of simplicity and elegance, particularly evident in the salon areas.
The interiors have been skillfully opened up, employing a neutral palette complemented by dark wood elements, striking wall art, and a teak inlaid nautical-inspired motif adorning the floor. The low-slung, modern sofas with textured backs provide a contemporary contrast, while the wooden-based relaxing chairs, with soft fabrics, emanate warmth.
A notable change lies in the main dining room, now with a plain cream carpet and French mahogany Empire-style chairs accommodating 18 guests around a mahogany claw-footed table. The wood-paneled walls play a supportive, complementary role, allowing the addition of a spectacular Art Deco chandelier to infuse a touch of sophistication into the space. The overall effect is a more relaxed atmosphere compared to its previous incarnation.
French Art Deco stylings are featured within the cabins, gracing signature furniture pieces that add a touch of elegance. However, the clever juxtaposition against a contemporary backdrop ensures that the overall feel exudes modern chic rather than leaning toward old-fashioned opulence as it was before the refit. This deliberate blend of classic and current elements creates cabins that resonate with a sophisticated and up-to-date ambiance, catering to a discerning taste for both tradition and modernity.
Accommodation
Grand Ocean offers accommodation for up to 14 guests in 7 suites comprising an owners cabin, 2 double cabins and 4 twin cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 29 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Deutz (SBV 12 M 628) 12-cylinder 2,868hp engines running at 1000rpm, motor yacht Grand Ocean is capable of reaching a top speed of 18 knots, and comfortably cruises at 16 knots. With her 220,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 9,100 nautical miles at 16 knots.
Amenities
A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort and an elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible. Grand Ocean also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
