Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 17m beam and a 4.55m draft. The yacht is built over 6 decks with an internal volume of 5,844 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.

Construction started in late 2015 with the keel laid under the project name 'Project Zoza'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in February 2019 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in April 2020.

Exterior Design

The project was developed with the expertise of Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture, renowned for their prowess in glass and hybrid propulsion. The exterior encapsulates the lavish interior with a straight-lined, masculine style, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to the yacht.

The exterior was further refined by designer Giorgio Cassetta, who was brought on board by Benetti in 2014. Cassetta polished the exterior, adding to its sleek and contemporary look, while maintaining a harmonious relationship with the voluminous interior.

Luminosity is more than just a yacht; it is a floating palace that offers unrivalled luxury and comfort.

Interior Design

The design process began with the understanding that this Benetti masterpiece was built to be lived in, resulting in an aesthetic that can be best described as a "villa on the water". The concept of the interior design focused on creating a light-filled, spacious "glass palace", with no compromise made in crafting the interiors.

The main deck, boasting a roomy three-meter height, creates an open and comfortable space, a feeling that is further emphasized by the yacht's 800 square meters of windows. These windows, considered vital for establishing the right atmosphere, are among the largest glazed surfaces ever found on a yacht. They are floor-to-ceiling, fire-rated, seven centimeters thick, optically perfect, and tint-free. This exquisite design choice ensures there is as little interference as possible between the eye and the seascape.

The interior design and style were dictated by the requirement to spend long periods aboard. The approach was to create different experiences in different areas of the boat, with décor designed to change and reflect the natural world outside. This constant connection with the outside world is made possible through the massive windows that frame the ever-changing seascape.

The main saloon, with its palette of sea blue and neutral grey, is filled with symbolism and meaning. Ceiling cut-outs resemble Matisse's Beasts of the Sea, and the blue de Savoie marble inlay on a five-meter rotating seating platform is shaped to reference a Lichtenstein speech bubble.

The four guest cabins on the main deck are meticulously crafted with materials that range from gold leaf to onyx, brushed cement, and ceramics. The bridge deck VIP suite is essentially a second master suite with a bathroom clad in malachite, lapis lazuli, and marbles, and a vast "moon lounge" deck that can be sequestered or opened up to other guests.

The owner's deck is truly a marvel, offering 500 square meters of luxurious space. The bed in the cabin lifts electrically by 80 centimeters to optimize the views out through full-height windows and glass bulwarks, creating a breathtaking connection to the surrounding seascape.

Accommodation

Luminosity can comfortably accommodate up to 27 guests in 12 opulent cabins. Each cabin has been designed with a keen eye for detail, providing a sanctuary of peace and relaxation for guests. The cabins are adorned with luxurious furnishings and state-of-the-art technology, ensuring a memorable stay on board.

The owner's suite offers a private sanctuary that spans 150 square meters, complete with a large office/conference room, vast wardrobes, and a 1.4-tonne Carrara marble bathtub. The suite also boasts an aft-facing cabin, providing breathtaking views and a private exterior deck.

The VIP suite on the bridge deck is another highlight of Luminosity's accommodation. This suite can function as a second master suite, complete with a bathroom. Adjacent to it is a vast "moon lounge" deck that can be opened up to other guests or kept private.

In addition to the guest accommodation, Luminosity also provides exceptional crew quarters. The yacht is designed to accommodate a large professional crew to ensure smooth sailing and exceptional service for guests. The crew cabins are laid out to maximize personal space and provide a comfortable environment for the crew members.

Luminosity's dedication to providing a high-quality living environment extends to every corner of the yacht. This is evident in the yacht's functional spaces, such as the laundry, which Bianchi, head of new construction at Burgess, claims is comparable to much larger vessels. Moreover, the yacht is equipped with a hospital room and a doctor's cabin to cater to any emergencies, ensuring the health and safety of everyone on board.

Performance & Capabilities

Luminosity, a 107-meter yacht crafted by Benetti, stands as a significant achievement in the realm of diesel-electric motor yachts. With a volume of 5,855 gross tons, it is noteworthy for its propulsion technology, which distinguishes it within its class.

The yacht operates on a diesel-electric system, comprising six Caterpillar C32 generators, each capable of producing one megawatt of power. These generators are housed within soundproof enclosures, ensuring minimal disturbance to guests on board. The electrical power produced is then converted by EEI-produced converters, and managed by an advanced power management system developed by Sistema.

Luminosity is equipped with a battery pack system supplied by Saft, totaling 36 tons and composed of 780 modules. This system not only supplies energy for the hotel loads but also supports peak shaving, contributing to the stability of the diesel engines by immediately meeting power demands. Additionally, it enables the yacht to sail silently for a distance of 13 to 15 nautical miles without the use of fossil fuels, a feature that can also serve as a safety measure in case of engine failure.

The propulsion is handled by two ABB Azipod units, each delivering 2,200 kilowatts of power, which eliminates the need for conventional shaft-line propulsion and thus significantly reduces noise and vibration.

Luminosity also includes a waste heat recovery system that repurposes the cooling water from the generators to produce hot water, thereby decreasing the power required for heating and enhancing the vessel's overall efficiency.

Luminosity reaches a top speed of 16 knots, with a cruising speed of 10 knots. Its fuel capacity of 400,000 liters enables an impressive range of over 8,000 nautical miles, allowing for transatlantic crossings without refueling.

The vessel ensures guest comfort with exceptionally low noise levels, recorded at around 35-36 dB at full speed, largely due to the hybrid power system. The batteries can also independently power the vessel's hotel load for six to eight hours, further enhancing guest experience and energy management.

Leisure & Entertainment

A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. For the ultimate relaxation experience, the yacht plays host to a luxury spa and massage room. Waterfront living can be enjoyed to the fullest, thanks to a large beach club and connecting swim platform with plenty of space for sitting back and admiring the sea views.

An elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible, while air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort and underwater lights will turn plenty of heads when the sun goes down. The sundeck is the social hub of the yacht with an inviting spread of sunpads.

For those seeking adventure, Luminosity is equipped with both a foredeck touch-and-go helipad and a fully certified helideck. The helideck, which is large enough to carry a seven-person Bell 429, features an onboard refueling system and approximately seven cubic meters of Al jet fuel. For exploration on water, a variety of tenders are available, stored by the helipad and easily launched using the ship's two cranes.
