Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 12.5m beam and a 3.75m draft. The yacht is built over 6 decks with an internal volume of 1,975 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.

Construction started in late 1996 with the keel laid under the project name 'Seventy'. Launched in December 1997 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in November 2000.

Exterior Design

The foredeck of Freedom serves as a functional space, covered by a smooth fairing that opens akin to a pelican's beak, revealing all technical equipment, mooring hardware, and even the rescue boat. At the stern, a substantial opening transom forms an extensive bathing platform and boarding dock when lowered. The yacht's main tenders are housed in a lower deck garage and launched sideways through large doors in the hull's side.

Freedom's styling is characterized by voluminous proportions, with a curved raked bow and an almost vertical stern, set against a dark blue hull. Vertical sections of glazing define the yacht's appearance when viewed from the bow, while dark blue stripes on the deck levels and curvature in the side profile add visual interest to the design.

Freedom offers luxurious accommodations for up to 24 guests in eight suites, decorated with traditional themes of dark mahogany, marble, and onyx, and includes a well-equipped gym, a Turkish steam room, a beauty salon, and a spa pool on the private deck.

Interior Design

Renowned designer John Munford specializes in traditional themes, evident in Freedom's interior where dark mahogany panels dominate, adorned with decorative carvings and details. Contrasting with the rich woodwork, the ceilings and carpets are white, while the walls display an extensive collection of artwork and pictures. Marble, onyx, and gold accents are liberally used, evoking the opulence of the pre-revolutionary Russian empire, reminiscent of the grandeur of the Hermitage in St Petersburg.

The owner's suite features a private circular dining room with floor-to-ceiling curved glass doors, allowing natural light to illuminate the intricate woodwork. The circular table can be extended to accommodate up to 18 guests. Additionally, Freedom boasts two other dining areas: one adorned with baroque styling, featuring gold and blue cloisonne panels and a replica of the original clock from the Gare du Nord ticket office in Paris, while the second dining area offers a more relaxed atmosphere with stripped sandstone walls, walnut beams, and rustic furniture, ideal for casual dining and likely more frequently used by guests.

Accommodation

Freedom provides accommodation for up to 24 guests across eight suites. The owner's cabin, positioned on the fourth deck, features a forward location with a private deck aft. On the main deck forward, the VIP cabin, equivalent in status to the owner's cabin, boasts large windows on either side, a double bathroom adorned in black marble with a white compass rose design in the glass shower compartment, and a private sitting room that can be partitioned off to serve as a child's cabin or an office.

Four additional guest double cabins are situated on the lower deck, along with two staff cabins capable of accommodating up to four members of the owner's staff and security team.

To ensure full guest service, Freedom can accommodate up to 28 crew members across two deck levels. The captain's cabin is located on the bridge deck.
