Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 11m beam and a 3.2m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 1,134 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in late 1988. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Shahnaz features a classic and understated aesthetic. The deck is made of high-quality teak, providing durability and a traditional maritime appearance. The hull and superstructure are both painted in pristine white, offering a clean and sleek look. The boot top and antifoul areas are finished in black, creating a sharp contrast to the white surfaces. This combination of colors and materials gives Shahnaz a straightforward yet elegant profile, suitable for various maritime conditions.

Key features include an upper-deck swimming pool and a helipad on the bridge-deck. Her exterior also integrates practical elements such as a hydraulically-operated car garage located beneath the teak-laid aft deck. This space-saving solution allows for the storage and easy deployment of a vehicle.

Shahnaz’s design incorporates two tenders stored in hydraulically-operated hangars on either side of the main deck. These hangars open to allow the tenders to be lowered into the water using extending beam davits. This arrangement optimizes the deck space available for guest activities.

The foredeck is raised to the level of the upper deck, allowing for a continuous walk-around deck. This also extends the main-deck accommodation further forward, providing additional space for guest suites.

Interior Design

The interior design of Shahnaz, crafted by the Rome-based Studio de Jorio, showcases a blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal. The entrance lobby, accessible via the starboard side companionway, serves as the central hub of the yacht. Its most notable feature is a circular glass-walled lift encased in a clear plexiglass stairway that connects three decks.

The interior decor predominantly features tones of blue. The lobby includes a blue-veined marble-topped table and blue-grey lacquered side-tables. The passage leading to the guest suites is lined with pale blue cushioned silk on one side and Laque d'Ambre sheeting in a rich blue on the other. This material, valued for its durability, is extensively used throughout the yacht.

Moving aft, the oval dining room features a large table surfaced in grey and cream parchment, protected by a clear polyester resin. The table is surrounded by custom-built, silk-upholstered acrylic and gold-framed chairs. The main saloon continues the theme with cream lacquer under a ceiling of Alcantara and mirrors. The room’s soft curves channel guests into distinct areas, including a semicircle of white and gold seating, a bar area, and a card table in a curved alcove. A television in a circular cabinet can serve multiple areas, complemented by a Yamaha Disklavier piano that can play stored performances.

The spacious aft-deck is designed for versatility, with a large hatch and hydraulic lift that reveal a vehicle garage beneath the deck. The upper-deck saloon offers a circular bar in white leather, parchment, and gold-plated brass, a TV area with a giant screen, a conversation corner, and a marble dance floor framed by Laque d'Ambre. Sliding doors lead to an open-deck area suitable for gatherings and private dinners.

The bridge, fitted with cream leather pilot chairs, features state-of-the-art controls and equipment set in blue-stained bird's-eye maple, all edged in soft blue leather. White leather settees line the aft bulkhead, providing a comfortable area for guests to visit. The bridge also includes a functional radio, satcom, and computer room.

Shahnaz’s design incorporates separate routes for crew and guests, ensuring privacy and efficiency. The crew’s quarters are linked to various service areas by a centrally placed stairway and dumb-waiter, allowing the crew to move around the yacht unseen. The Captain and First Officer have private cabins behind the bridge, which also houses the Captain’s office. The bridge itself is equipped with advanced controls, including throttles and controls for the Berg five-bladed variable pitch propellers, designed for precise maneuvering.

Accommodation

Shahnaz offers accommodation for up to 22 guests. Accommodation includes two distinct owner’s suites known as the 'Shipowner's Apartment' and the 'Lady's Suite'. The Shipowner's Apartment features a king-sized bed with a distinctive tan canopy. This suite is decorated in brown and cream tones with furniture covered in imitation leopard-skin. A notable highlight is the owner's study, which includes a private satcom terminal and is decorated with genuine python-skin walls and desktop. Additionally, the bathroom in the Shipowner's Apartment features gold leaf flooring overlaid with resin-sealed mosaic tiles.

The Lady's Suite, which can also serve as an additional guest cabin, is decorated in pink and black and includes a double bed, a sitting area, a dressing room, and an ensuite bathroom walled with Laque d'Ambre.

The main deck houses four large guest suites. Three of these suites are equipped with double beds and have a separate lounge area. The fourth suite, slightly smaller due to its proximity to the starboard boat garage, features twin beds. Each suite is equipped with a 'Clos a Mat' head in the bathrooms for added convenience and hygiene. On the upper deck, there are four more double guest suites and one twin suite.

The crew quarters are located on the lower deck, comprising a galley, dining room, mess, storerooms, and laundry facilities. Crew accommodations include one single-bunked cabin and seven twin cabins, all with ensuite facilities. The Captain and the First Officer have private cabins immediately behind the bridge, with the Captain also having an office.
