Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement steel hull and a composite superstructure she features a 14.4m beam and a 4.75m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 5,002 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
Construction started in early 1977 with the keel laid under the project name 'Swift 141'. Launched in June 1978 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in April 1981.
Exterior Design
Yas's exterior design is a true testament to the notion that form and function can coalesce to create something both aesthetically striking and operationally sound. The vessel's unique lineage, having been transformed from a Kortenaer-class frigate into the luxurious superyacht it is today, allows it to boast a sleek and slender hull that not only promises high efficiency and stability but also serves as a canvas for its remarkable aesthetic transformation.
The superstructure, crafted from 500 individual pieces of specially formed reinforced glass, is a marvel of modern engineering and design. This architectural feat not only enhances the yacht's futuristic silhouette but also contributes significantly to reducing the overall weight, thus aiding in the vessel's performance.
The remodeled hull-form of Yas is not merely a technical achievement; it's a core element of the yacht's identity. Its beauty lies not only in its functionality but also in its ability to seamlessly integrate with the ultra-modern superstructure. The bold yet harmonious design ensures that Yas is not just a vessel that moves through the water, but one that seems inherently born to slice through the seas with grace and power.
Interior Design
With an exterior design as striking as YAS, the interior had to be equally impressive, and from what has been revealed, it certainly lives up to expectations. The master cabin stands out with its extraordinary design, featuring a circular bed positioned beneath a massive skylight set within a domed ceiling. Banquette seating gracefully curves around the space, while natural light floods in, casting dynamic shadows through the arches.
The renderings of the futuristic salon and bar area offer a captivating preview of the interior theme. Characterized by curved furniture and an open design, every element contributes to a floating aesthetic. Flowing lines and meticulous attention to detail define the space, ensuring that every aspect is uniquely tailored for the yacht. From the furniture to the smallest details like lampshades, nothing within this interior design is ordinary or conventional.
Accommodation
The centerpiece of Yas's accommodation is the master suite, an emblem of sophistication and futuristic luxury. This owner's suite, as depicted in the renderings from Pierrejean Design Studio, is situated just below the bridge within the striking glazed superstructure. It promises an awe-inspiring panoramic view that stretches from the stars above to the horizon beyond. The master suite embodies a serene and exclusive sanctuary, complete with a private deck that affords a majestic vantage point overlooking the yacht's bow.
This suite is more than just a bedroom; it is a fully self-contained and private retreat, crafted with the finest materials and boasting an aesthetic that seems more at home in a science fiction narrative than on the high seas. The use of 500 individual pieces of specially formed reinforced glass ensures that the suite's occupants are enveloped in light and luxury, with the world outside presented as a breathtaking backdrop to their onboard experience.
In regards to crew accommodation, Yas is designed to house a professional and dedicated crew of 56 who ensure the smooth operation of the vessel and the comfort of all onboard.
Performance & Capabilities
M/Y Yas harnesses formidable power from its twin diesel MTU engines, model 12V4000 Mx0/Mx1, each delivering an impressive 10,492 horsepower. These engines, operating at an optimal 12 revolutions per minute, are at the heart of Yas’s mechanical prowess, providing robust propulsion to this majestic vessel. The precise engineering of the Yas allows it to achieve a remarkable top speed of 26 knots. This remarkable speed is a testament to the yacht’s sleek design and the efficiency of its powerplant. Moreover, Yas offers a comfortable cruising speed of 23 knots, which is not only efficient but also ensures a swift voyage across the seas, minimizing travel time between luxurious destinations.
With a maximum range of 5,758 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 23 knots, Yas is well-suited for long voyages, offering the ultimate freedom to explore the world's oceans without the frequent need for refueling stops. This extensive range makes it an ideal yacht for those who wish to embark on extended expeditions in the utmost style and comfort.
The conversion from a Kortenaer-class frigate to a superyacht has seen Yas upgraded with contemporary bow thrusters and stabilizers. These additions greatly enhance the yacht’s maneuverability and stability, providing a smooth and comfortable experience for guests on board, even in varied sea conditions. The stability systems in place ensure that Yas remains a serene sanctuary for its occupants, irrespective of the state of the ocean.
Amenities
Rest and relaxation can be achieved on board, thanks to a luxury spa. In addition, a swim platform is on hand for guests looking to cool off in the sea. The yacht features a tender garage with storage for a range of toys and accessories. An elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible.
Special Features
Among many special features are a helipad, a pool/spa aft deck and an audio-visual entertainment system which is the most extensive and sophisticated aboard a yacht. Yas is the first yacht from the shipyard and is built on the hull of a former Dutch-built navy frigate. The new superstructure is the largest ever built in composite.
