One of the largest superyacht deliveries of the year is edging closer after 138.96m (456ft) SOLARIS was spotted cruising in the Northern Sea on her sea trials.
The Lloyd Werft built superyacht will take her place behind 142m (466ft) NORD as the largest build of 2021 when she is delivered to her Owner later this year.
Some of the mystery around the spectacular yacht has been unwrapped in recent months with video footage revealing she sports an aft glass-bottomed pool, two beach clubs, an expansive swim platform and pronounced wing stations on either side. She also features floor-to-ceiling glass windows for plenty of natural light.
Also spread across her eight decks will be a helipad and hangar and a tender garage equipped with crane for launching tenders.
The project is the debut of Australian industrial designer Marc Newson and his creation is notable for clean but robust lines. The pale grey topsides and white superstructure give an almost minimalist interpretation of an explorer yacht, the design rising into a simple yet visually powerful arch that seems to protectively wrap up the midsections.
Builder Lloyd Werft is predominantly known for building cruise ships, although its previous foray into the world of superyachts was a sizeable one, 115m (377ft) LUNA, built in 2010. Whilst there has been some debate around the exact length of SOLARIS, with estimates putting her somewhere between 139m (456ft) and 145m (476ft), what does seem likely is she will take her place in the world’s Top 20 yachts by length upon her delivery.
