Sanlorenzo has announced it has started construction of the first hull of its voluminous new 57Steel line.
The 56.7m (186ft) superyacht features an innovative layout that the Italian builder claims has lead to “extraordinary volumes” that are double that of its 52Steel which is just 5m (16.4ft) shorter.
Designed in collaboration with Studio Zuccon the five-deck superyacht marks a shift from traditional design cues by moving the wheelhouse area up and away from its normal spot forward of the upper deck. This frees and opens the upper deck for a whole new design perspective.
Freed of its helm duties, the upper deck can now deliver an Owner’s retreat, a 54-square-meter (581 sq. ft) space with a private deck. This then allows for a full-beam VIP cabin forward of the main deck. In fact, thanks to a strategic division of space the Steel57 can house up to seven cabins and a deck, below the lower deck, dedicated to services such as laundry and cold storage.
Elsewhere the new line builds upon the strengths of its successful predecessor the 52Steel. Most notably featuring a similarly designed stern area with its swimming pool with transparent floor, and 110 square meter (1184 sq. ft) beach club.
Bernard Zuccon of Studio Zuccon was quick to highlight the strengths of the 1000GT yacht, saying: "The versatility of use that distinguishes the spaces onboard is a key element of the 57Steel, which makes it possible to satisfy the many requests of a diverse and multicultural market like that of superyachts.
"A model in which there is no ostentation of the brand and whose external lines are defined and extremely fluid, transparent and clear, in which the language of the shipyard shines through. We can define the 57 Steel as a skillful balancing act between content and container.”
Sanlorenzo’s flagship Steel range has become renowned for its deck lifestyle and large lounging spaces. Made up of the 52Steel, 57Steel, 62 Steel and 64 Steel it has taken home numerous awards over the years.
It has helped the Ligurian-Tuscan shipyard establish itself as one of the busiest shipyards in the world having delivered more than 100 yachts in the last three years alone, with almost 30 more set for delivery over the next 12 months.
