Nord Star Boats History & Heritage
Nord Star's rich maritime legacy dates back to 1920 when Sivery Lindkvist initiated boat building in Kokkola, Finland, focusing on wooden fishing and workboats ideally suited to the coastal region. This maritime tradition, rooted in ship and boat construction, had persisted for centuries in the area.
Silvert's expertise was inherited by his son Rude, who joined the family business in 1947. Under Rude's influence, Nord Star boats evolved to become larger and faster, reaching a remarkable 55 knots in 1959, a notable achievement for that era.
In 1968, Olli, Rude's son, started contributing to boat building, officially joining in 1984. Presently, Olli serves as the Managing Director. In 1984, Nord Star completed its first fiberglass boat, the Sea Star 660 DC Cabin. Subsequent milestones included the production of Waterman lifeboats in 1992 and the commencement of Nord Star mold manufacturing in 1998.
The company welcomed the fourth generation in 2003, with Olli's son Simon joining and eventually becoming a designer and partner in 2014. The same year marked the introduction of the first outboard models to the Nord Star range.
Operating from the Kokkola area, Nord Star has crafted over 4,000 GRP boats spanning 6-15m (20-50ft) in the century since Sivert Lindkvist built the initial wooden fishing boat in 1920.
