On Deck

The yacht has a large swim platform with seats. There is a two-section wide door which is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair, and a sliding feature that increases the deck space when the upper level isn't in use.

The trawler-style side access door and the foredeck area were admired.  The foredeck could be converted into a forward-facing seating area. He found the asymmetrical side decks an intelligent design element, allowing for spacious accommodation without compromising on access.

The flybridge was left open for customization with loungers or a table and chairs, and it included an outdoor barbecue area and a fridge. The central helm offered a commanding view and the potential for more seating.

Interior

Once inside, he praised the trawler-style layout, with the galley situated for ease of use during long cruises. There are deep seats in the saloon and the option of having either drawers or a fridge in the saloon area. The galley is equipped with gas cooking facilities and a fridge underneath the helm seat. He was pleased with the amount of space in the helm area and the excellent visibility provided by the large windows.

Descending to the lower deck, the large lobby area is impressive with a provision for a washer/dryer. Contrary to some other designs, the yacht had two guest cabins, one with a double bed and the other with two single beds. The master suite was particularly large, with a central double bed, ample storage, and large windows. The shower and toilet facilities in the master suite are completely seperate, which allow for simultaneous use.

Performance

Looking at the engine space, there is a large lazarette area, steering gear, and Cummins 425 horsepower engines. This are on a conventional shaft drive.  Also featured are raw water strainers, and the water and fuel tanks. The Beneteau Swift Trawler's top speed is around 22-25 knots and this exceeds the norm for trawlers, but it can also cruise at a lower speed for increased range.

In Summary

In summary, Nick found the Beneteau Swift Trawler 47 to be an interesting and well-designed long-range cruiser, ideal for extended trips.
