With five good cabins including a main-deck Owner’s suite, the Horizon FD87 is designed for crew or Owner operation and serious cruising. Performance

Both yachts are shaftdrive and have versatile cruising-focused hull designs offering smooth, serious passage-making as well as plenty of fun higher up the rev range. Genuinely usable design speeds run from a stable 8-knot displacement rate for longer passages, up to planing speeds for afternoon port-to-port blasts. The Sirena 88 tops out at 25knots with twin 1550hp MAN diesel engines, the Horizon FD87 hits 20knots with its standard 1136hp Caterpillar engines, but does also offer uprated 1600hp MTUs which should get close to 25knots.

Interior

These yachts are incredibly similar across the main deck, with long, glass-clad salons offering bright living spaces with open lounges leading to dining areas close to the galley. Full height glass doors lead to the side decks, opening up the interior even more and creating that inside/outside feel. The FD87 has another upper lounge, which can be configured and finished in all manner of ways, including a private study or lounge, bar or even an Owner’s cabin.

Accommodation

Main deck Owners’ staterooms are real superyacht features, both yachts have them and both are excellent. The Sirena has a couple of unique features including a private foredeck, with direct access from the cabin, that can accommodate a hot tub. Even more lavish, the guest cabin directly below the Owner’s can be swapped for a full Hammam. Not to be outdone, the Horizon’s four guest cabins can be configured in multiple layouts.

Helm Station

The Horizon FD87 has one very professional raised pilothouse with excellent vizibility and direct access to the decks. The broad helm station offers lots of options on layout with up to three helm seats and space for multiple screens. The station can be closed off or open to the lounge area behind, depending on how it is used. The Sirena 88 has two defined helm stations, an enclosed pilothouse intended for longer passages and a flybridge helm for shorter trips. The pilothouse has a single seat with triple screens and a chart area, the flybridge position offers excellent vizibility with twin helm seats.

Deck Areas

You will do well to find two yachts of this size offering safer, more spacious or versatile decks. The Horizon feels incredibly practical and designed to be used, from its broad main deck aft to its protected foredeck lounge, while the upper deck running off the lounge offers privacy and lots of layout options. The Sirena’s main deck feels opulent, all the way to its private Owner’s forward retreat, but the star of the show is the flybridge. Luxurious, spacious and impeccably finished it mixes a vast bar and dining area, covered by a hardtop, with an open sunbathing area aft. There’s more at the stern, with the option of a neat waterside lounge or a tender garage.

Flybridge

The Horizon FD87 doesn’t really have a flybridge with a raised aft deck running off its pilothouse. The Sirena 88 has a far more conventional flybridge with a steering position. Luxurious, spacious and beautifully finished it has a bar and dining area covered by a hardtop, with open sunbathing aft.

Beach Club

A true beach club should be a waterside lounge and terrace. Usually at the stern, a beach club might open on one, two or three sides of the yacht. It should be practical, able to withstand plenty of use, watersports and saltwater, but also luxurious, creating a spectacular retreat day or night.

Compare Layouts

These two yachts are very similar in length, beam and displacement, sharing an equally similar five-cabin layout with the Owner’s stateroom on the main deck. Where they differ most is up top with the Horizon’s raised pilothouse and lounge, compared to the Sirena’s open flybridge. The FD87’s versatile design creates an additional raised lounge while still leaving space for a large, adjoining aft deck, For hotter climates, a raised climate-controlled lounge will be popular. The other difference is with the crew quarters, both offer four berths but the Horizon gives the stern of the yacht over to crew who will enjoy a proper mess area, the Sirena’s stern can be a tender garage or fun lounge.
