Vitruvius Yachts has announced it has begun construction on a new 66m (216.5ft) superyacht at the Rossinavi shipyard in Viareggio.
In another example of how the superyacht industry has adapted to the changing circumstances brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, naval architect for the project Philippe Briand revealed that the team had been working with the Owner for a considerable time without ever having met.
“On a recent call we joked that this must be the first yacht to be built on Zoom, because we have been working together for over a year now without ever having physically met. It has been a surprisingly educational process even after all these years of working in yacht design” he said.
Along with Briand’s naval architecture the motor yacht features exterior design from Vitruvius and interiors from the pen of Enrico Gobbi.
The Owner has chartered twice a year for the past 20 years and they used their considerable experience to shape the design of the new yacht, which they intend to use exclusively for private cruising with friends and family.
“It has been a fascinating and stimulating process designing this 66-metre yacht, as the owner is one of the most thorough and knowledgeable clients that I have had the pleasure to work with in my four decades as a yacht designer” added Briand.
“We were provided with very detailed feedback and preferences. Every line, every single volume of the yacht has been scrutinised. One would think this is tiresome, but it was quite the opposite because the team fed off the gentlemen’s input and experience and I think we are delivering a superior yacht, and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable project to work on together. The benefits will no doubt be seen in the final outcome of this special Vitruvius yacht when launched.”
The new yacht is set to be launched in 2023.
Vitruvius Yachts are a London-based design and naval architecture company that works with a number of superyacht yards. Notable yachts it has been involved in the build of include 58m (190ft) NAJIBA, which picked up both a Boat International Design & Innovation Award and a World Superyacht Award in 2020 and the multi-award winning 73m (239.5ft) NAUTILUS.
