A tower does give you excellent local visbility, whilst keeping you in touch with what's happening in the cockpit. For the US game fishing market, it is still considered a must-have, even though modern electronics does most of the fish-finding. Sportsfisher specialist, Hatteras, tells us that most of its owners include a tower when speccing their new boat. With that in mind, perhaps the best reason to consider fitting a Tuna Tower is resale value. If people simply expect a sportsfisher to have a tower, it might be hard to sell a boat without one. So, as it doesn't affect your enjoyment of your boat one way or the other, you might as well go for it.
You can fish from pretty much any boat, and you can go to sea in a good, well made vessel. What makes a sportsfisher ideal for offshore fishing is a mix of specification, and design. The spec to support long days on the water, with rod holders, bait wells, and specialist storage. The design, to ensure a clean and safe cockpit to fish from, the stern of the boat kept low and clean to help landing and working.
