Hull-turn milestone for first Arksen yacht

Project Ocean, the first yacht from the UK yard set for delivery, has recently had her hull turned.

New expedition yacht brand Arksen has marked another milestone with the hull turn of Project Ocean, its inaugural yacht.

The fledgling British shipyard was only founded in 2018 and the 26.2m (86ft) Arksen 85 is set to be its first vessel, scheduled for delivery in spring 2022.

Construction on Project Ocean began in September 2020, with Arksen announcing its sale earlier this year. The yard revealed the new Owner plans to take Project Ocean on a global tour, taking in the fjords of Norway, the Mediterranean, Caribbean, US and Canada.

The hull turning took place at the shipyard’s Isle of Wight facilities, with a small number of the Arksen team in attendance. Construction of the superstructure will now commence.

“The hull construction of the first Arksen 85 is now about 90% complete in terms of the aluminum work. Seeing the hull turn the other week was a great milestone for us and it’s now great to be able to walk along her deck and to really get a feel for the interior space.” said Jim Mair, Arksen Technical Director

The explorer yacht features a full hybrid propulsion system giving a top speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of 9 to 11 knots providing a range of up to 7000nm.

She also has a strong eco-conscious design, the hull and superstructure have been constructed from recycled aluminum that can be recycled again at the end of the vessel's life. Even the interiors use a range of recycled and sustainable materials, with soft furnishings using recycled plastic bottles.
