The Galeon 500 Fly is built in Poland but designed by British naval architect Tony Castro. It's an Owner-operated boat with three cabins and two bathrooms for guests and the option of a crew cabin with a single berth. Its main deck is one of the most innovative in the class thanks to the folding cockpit terraces, modular foredeck furniture and optional rotating cockpit dinette with tender garage. 

Sealine is a famous British brand that is now owned by Hanse Group with construction taking place alongside Fjord in northern Germany. The Sealine F530 is the flagship of its flybridge range also designed by a Brit (Bill Dixon) and though it doesn't have the inventive deck spaces of the Galeon, it makes up for it with a more flexible arrangement on the lower deck. Both boats have a keen eye on value for money.

Performance

The Galeon is available with both shaft driven and IPS motors, though the latter is prohibitively expensive. The Sealine is IPS only with the choice between IPS700 (550hp) and 800 (625hp). Ultimately, both boats will top out at around 30 knots and be happiest cruising anywhere between 22-25 knots. The Galeon will carry slightly more fuel so its range could be a little better at comparable speeds, though there won't be much in it.

Interior

Both boats favour a galley aft arrangement in the saloon but the Sealine has a larger glazed area and is therefore brighter. The sliding door adjacent to the lower helm is a great feature that the Galeon doesn't have, creating another access point to the saloon, improving natural ventilation and making it much easier for the skipper to help with crewing. 

The Galeon has a higher quality feel in its interior and is more customisable with a great mix of woods, colours, upholstery and lighting options on offer. The way the galley opens up to the cockpit is unrivalled in this sector.

Accommodation

The Sealine is only 0.1m wider than the Galeon but that extra beam creates space for a twin third cabin as opposed to the bunks that are the only option on the Galeon. As an option you can have the Sealine with a small double here instead and aft there is the option between a storage area or a crew cabin. The Galeon's three cabin arrangement is fixed but if you don't opt for the rotating cockpit seating you can have a crew cabin.

Helm Station

The Galeon's imposing dash is ergonomically sound and very easy to get comfortable in front of, though there is a blind spot to starboard created by the thick windscreen mullion. Pre-2019 boats had analogue dials running across the top of the dash. The Sealine's helm looks more modern than the Galeon's but it's more fussy as well. However, the side door really boosts the functionality and makes crewing the boat much easier.

Deck Areas

The Galeon's main deck is best in class. The cockpit terraces and optional rotating seating transform the usability of the deck and the clever modular foredeck seating works really well too. The Sealine's decks are more formulaic but the space is used wisely and it's dotted with practical touches.

Flybridge

The Sealine's beam makes for a very spacious flybridge and the wet bar is cleverly located towards the aft end of the deck. The Galeon's feels slightly smaller but the layout is good and unlike the Sealine there is the option of a hard top with a built in sunroof.

Compare Layouts

The Galeon has the upper hand on deck where its party tricks make it one of the best floating platforms in the sector but Sealine offers a better mix of layouts on the lower deck and the optional double third cabin is a nice touch.
