Artefact is a multi-award winning 80m motor yacht delivered by German shipyard Nobiskrug in 2020. The yacht’s striking exterior was created by Gregory C. Marshall, while Reymond Langton Design designed the acoustically balanced interiors. Nobiskrug is responsible for her naval architecture.

Key Features

  • Solar panels and large battery storage system
  • Custom six blade propellers minimize noise and vibration
  • Highest volume 80-metre superyacht worldwide
  • Asymmetrical window design by Gregory C. Marshall
  • Meets IMO Tier III low emissions regulations

Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and a composite superstructure,  Artefact features a 16.82m beam and a draft of 4.2m. The yacht is built over four decks with an internal volume of 2,999 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction began in early 2017 with the keel laid under the project name 'Artefact'. Certainly one of the most complex and environmentally friendly vessels Nobiskrug has ever undertaken, the yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in July 2019,  Artefact undertook sea trials over the following months and was finally delivered to her owners in March 2020.

Exterior Design

Artefact's exterior, created by Gregory C. Marshall, challenges conventional yacht aesthetics with its innovative design. The unique “crazy paving” windows contribute to an exterior that is as daring as it is captivating. The design also mirrors features within the owner's personal suite, a subtle integration of the yacht's interior and exterior. Artefact is a testament to the owner's commitment to personal satisfaction over resale value, resulting in a design that is as memorable as it is unconventional.

As Marshall observes, “Artefact is a bold piece of floating architecture that dares to be different, inside and out.”

Interior Design

The Artefact's interior, designed by Reymond Langton Design, reflects a careful balance of sumptuous luxury and quiet discretion. The design studio drew inspiration from the owner's residential property on the shores of Lake Huron in Canada with the brief to replicate the property's stunning views and cozy ambiance within the yacht.

The property, designed by the renowned architect Siamek Hariri, recognized for his sculptural approach to architecture, features sizable sections of laminated glass, daringly cantilevered over open spaces. Implementing this visionary design entailed a significant focus on acoustics, to mitigate the transmission of noise and vibrations commonly associated with glass structures. Introducing a design with extensive glass elements during the yacht's early stages presented a notable challenge.

To achieve their goal, the designers used sole-to-ceiling glass and hardwood soles. In total, approximately 740 m² of glass, weighing almost 60 tonnes, was installed.

The work of Pascale Reymond, in particular, shines through in the intricate three-dimensional designs of the wall and ceiling paneling as well as the suspended elements. The acoustic comfort throughout the yacht was a design and engineering priority, leading to a unique solution of cladding walls and ceilings with wooden ribs and 3D-milled panels in corrugated leather, notably featured in the owner's office, the VIP cabins, and the cinema area.

A design highlight in the main salon is a wooden ribbed ceiling paired with quilted maple on the walls. The maple underwent a bleaching process and was meticulously fashioned into wave shapes, incorporating narrow 3D panels to produce a visually striking, three-dimensional effect.

As Capt. Aaron C. Clark, the owner's representative, emphasizes, “It was very important that the interior design could coexist with the exterior styling.”

Accommodation

Artefact provides accommodation for up to 16 guests in eight suites. The layout includes an owner's cabin, two VIP cabins, two double cabins, and three twin cabins. The yacht can accommodate up to 24 crew members effectively fulfilling the operational requirements of this exceptional vessel.

Performance & Capabilities

Artefact boasts an ABB diesel-electric system with a DC Grid as its propulsion technology. This system seamlessly integrates lithium batteries, Azipods, and a full dynamic positioning system. With the ability to switch power from generators to batteries, Artefact can cruise silently at a leisurely pace of six knots, providing guests with a serene experience on the water. The Azipods and dynamic positioning system ensure precise maneuverability, minimizing the impact of waves and wind on the hull. The DC Grid's modular design not only enhances energy efficiency but also allows for future upgrades to new power sources like fuel cells. Artefact's propulsion technology showcases a commitment to sustainability, comfort, and cutting-edge engineering in the superyacht industry. Additionally, the yacht has been fitted with stabilizers to increase onboard comfort whilst at anchor, particularly in rough waters.

Leisure & Entertainment

Gym Marine's collaboration with the designers during the construction process of the yacht resulted in the creation of a remarkable superyacht gym and wellness area. The luxurious indoor cinema benefits from meticulous acoustic considerations that resonate throughout the entirety of the yacht. The inclusion of an elevator guarantees comprehensive accessibility across all areas.

Tenders

The expertise of Superyacht Tenders and Toys provided valuable guidance on the selection of watersports equipment, tenders, and accessories, ensuring optimal use of the yacht's storage space and easy access to the water.
