Kaiser is an award winning 60m motor yacht for sale delivered by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen in 2011. The yacht's exteriors have been penned by Donald Starkey, while Bannenberg & Rowell has designed her interiors.
Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 10.7m beam and a 3.5m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 1,092 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in early 2008 with the keel laid under the project name 'Aburas'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
The exterior design of the yacht Kaiser is characterized by the sophisticated styling of Donald Starkey, which also influenced the earlier 60m (197ft) ELANDESS. The yacht’s exterior features a functional and practical layout, adhering to the high standards set by Abeking & Rasmussen. The design includes a slipway system that allows the tender to be launched or recovered while the yacht is underway, reflecting the owner's appreciation for advanced technology.
The superstructure of Kaiser is marked by clean lines and a streamlined form that enhances its visual appeal while maintaining functional efficiency. The design incorporates high rails around the spa pool area on the forward sundeck for child safety, a practical bar area, and a triangular sun awning mounted on Multiplex supports.
The color scheme and furnishings for the outer deck were carefully chosen by Bannenberg & Rowell Design, ensuring a cohesive look that complements the yacht's overall aesthetic. The layout of the guest cabins on the lower deck is flexible, allowing them to be used individually or combined into two large suites that extend across the full beam. This versatility ensures that the yacht can accommodate various guest arrangements as needed.
Interior Design
The interior design of the yacht Kaiser, crafted by renowned designers Dickie Bannenberg and Simon Rowell, reflects a solid and natural quality that aligns with a conservative German aesthetic. The design brief required a strong architectural presence and sophisticated use of materials, resulting in a space defined by its robust and practical elements.
The interior features dramatic wood combinations, including dark ovangkol, oak, and rosewood, complemented by lighter woods such as beli and zebrano. These materials are enhanced by the judicious use of niello, a black alloy used as decorative inlay on doors and furniture, adding a distinctive touch to the overall design.
The design process began with the guest cabins on the lower deck, which were fitted with strong architectural elements and a Germanic color palette. The cabins feature niello-decorated door panels, cabinetry, and freestanding washstands with curved feet, all meticulously crafted to match the owner's specifications. The balustrade around the central stairway is a single sheet of bronze, heated and bent into shape, with a striking design cut into it. The stairway walls are panelled with inlaid oak and beli wood.
The upper saloon is designed for multiple functions, featuring a cozy corner seating group where up to four people can relax, chat, drink, or play cards. This space also accommodates a larger gathering area for watching television, with a bar and pantry behind it. The main deck saloon is furnished with two enormous sofas, designed after several mock-ups to achieve the perfect ergonomics, including a special neck rest. A notable feature is the carrot-red sofa chosen by the owner for the upper saloon.
Throughout the yacht, the designers incorporated subtle references to Jugendstil, with elements such as freestanding washstands and decorative cut-out metal balustrades. These design choices are intended to be unobtrusive, adding a layer of historical nuance without overwhelming the space.
Kaiser's interior is a careful composition of materials and design elements, aimed at creating a space that is both functional and reflective of the owner's admiration for German craftsmanship. The yacht's interior design was recognized at the 2012 World Superyacht Awards, winning in the displacement motor yacht 500GT to 1299GT category for its use of color, tasteful references to German decorative art, and harmonious design.
Accommodation
The yacht Kaiser is designed to comfortably host a total of 12 guests across six well-appointed cabins.
Located on the lower deck, the guest cabins are versatile and can be used individually or opened up into two expansive suites that extend across the yacht's full beam. Each cabin features strong architectural elements and a dramatic combination of woods, including dark ovangkol, oak, and rosewood, alongside lighter beli and zebrano. The walls are lined with lightly pleated linen framed with nickel-headed studs, and the floors are laid with chestnut parquet in a herringbone pattern. The six-pointed oak intarsia in the doors adds a three-dimensional effect, showcasing excellent craftsmanship.
The owner's suite is designed with a focus on open space and unobstructed views. The master suite avoids clutter, featuring tall windows that offer panoramic views and contribute to a spacious and tranquil environment. The suite is devoid of superfluous furniture, such as dressing tables and chaise longues, in favor of open space. The bed area features embossed leather at the head and foot, and the bathroom is adorned with a mother-of-pearl mosaic. The suite also includes a simply furnished study, lit by retro-style lamps from Ralph Lauren, directly connected to the sleeping area.
Kaiser is also capable of carrying up to 16 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3516B) 1,877hp engines, motor yacht Kaiser is capable of reaching a top speed of 16 knots, and comfortably cruises at 14 knots. With her 112,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,000 nautical miles at 14 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.
Amenities
The yacht can house plenty of nautical toys and accessories, with a well-appointed tender garage for storing her impressive locker. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort, while underwater lights create a dazzling light display when the sun goes down. Kaiser also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
