Launched in November 2021 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 2022.

Exterior Design

Kenshō's exterior design is a masterful display of nautical architecture that immediately captivates the eye. Designed collaboratively by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture and archineers.berlin, the yacht's silhouette is a testament to innovation, departing from conventional yachting designs. One of Kenshō's most striking features is her metallic blue-green hull, a custom color known as "Kenshō metallic," reminiscent of a classic Ford Mustang hue from the 1960s. This unique choice not only sets Kenshō apart visually but also reflects the owner's desire for a vessel that is exceptional in every sense.

The yacht's lines flow effortlessly, resembling the natural shaping forces of the sea, creating a dynamic and smooth appearance. The design team skillfully manipulated the yacht's profile to counteract its considerable height, brought on by the generous deckhead clearances within. This was achieved through the artful crafting of the yacht's bulwarks or "ribs," which feature a clever asymmetrical arrow design that grows higher from aft to forward, giving Kenshō a sleek, low-profile look despite its substantial volume.

Kenshō's main deck breaks with tradition further by omitting the standard side walkways, instead utilizing the full beam for expansive guest cabins that benefit from large windows and breathtaking views. The absence of a formal aft saloon is another deliberate design choice, replaced by an internal dining space that emphasizes the yacht's orientation towards innovative and efficient use of space.

The yacht's teak decking, wrapping around the overhang of each deck, complements the metallic luster of the hull, enhancing the luxurious feel of the exterior spaces. The aft decks on each level are thoughtfully differentiated to serve distinct functions, ranging from al fresco dining on the upper aft deck to a lively sundeck designed for entertainment.

Further defining Kenshō's exterior are the glass side rails, replacing conventional solid bulwarks to maximize the visual connection with the sea. This feature, combined with the absence of backrests on the outside sofas, promotes an immersive sailing yacht experience, allowing unobstructed views in every direction and reinforcing the connection between the guests and the surrounding environment.

Interior Design

Delving into the heart of Kenshō reveals an interior that transcends conventional yacht design, where every space is meticulously crafted to encourage a seamless connection with the sea. With the collaborative genius of Jouin Manku at the helm of interior design, the yacht's spaces are imbued with a thoughtful blend of natural materials and intricate details that evoke the serenity of a Zen garden.

The yacht's communal areas are a testament to functional opulence. The upper deck's forward saloon presents a versatile layout, where curved sofas can be adapted for conversation, movie viewing, or simply taking in the view. The ceiling relief, inspired by a navigational chart's depth contour, adds an element of nautical sophistication. Through a gallery adorned with curated art, one transitions into the aft saloon, where the continuity of soft, natural tones in leather, teak, glass, and metal envelops guests in understated luxury.

Jouin Manku's use of layered materials throughout Kenshō is a nod to the traditional Samurai armor, with each layer representing a step closer to one's essence. This concept is mirrored in the yacht's tactile experience, where intimate spaces are adorned with silk, and areas of interaction with the external world feature more robust materials like metal.

The main aft deck eschews the conventional formal saloon in favor of an internal dining space, enhancing the connection between the dining experience and the ocean's horizon. Custom-designed furniture pieces, such as the adaptable tabletops and artful bar area, serve both form and function, reinforcing the yacht's ethos of experiential luxury.

On Kenshō, even the corridors are reimagined, with a design that minimizes wasted space and maximizes the expanse of the guest areas. This innovative approach results in guest interiors and cabins that rival those found on much larger vessels, ensuring that every journey aboard Kenshō is an invitation to indulge in the spaciousness and elegance of grand design.

Accommodation

Kenshō is equipped with seven generously appointed guest cabins, two of which can be utilized for staff. This flexibility in accommodation ensures that a variety of group compositions can be catered to, whether for family voyages or corporate retreats. The guest cabins are strategically located to maximize the stunning views provided by Kenshō’s large windows, inviting the breathtaking vistas of the ocean right into the personal quarters of the guests.

The pièce de résistance of Kenshō's accommodation is the expansive owner's suite. Occupying a considerable portion of the main deck, the suite is a marvel of design, composed of four discrete rooms: the main cabin, an opulent bathroom, an impressively spacious dressing room, and a private living room. The full beam of the yacht is utilized in this suite, creating an open, airy environment complemented by the natural light streaming through the substantial windows.

Artisanal craftsmanship is evident throughout the accommodation spaces, with an attention to detail that is second to none. The owner's en suite boasts a bathtub meticulously carved from a singular block of pristine Carrara marble, highlighted by striking veins that add to its sculptural beauty. This bath serves as not only a functional element of the suite but also a testament to the commitment to luxury and artistry that defines Kenshō.

The guest experience is further refined by the deliberate elimination of unnecessary corridors, which maximizes the living spaces. This thoughtful design approach results in guest cabins and interior spaces that rival those found on larger yachts, ensuring that every guest enjoys an exceptional level of comfort and privacy.

Beyond the exquisite guest accommodations, Kenshō provides for its crew with thoughtful consideration. The crew quarters are conceived to offer comfort and functionality, enabling the dedicated team of 23 crew members to maintain the highest standards of service while also enjoying their own spaces for rest and relaxation.

Kenshō's accommodations are not just designed for comfort; they also foster an environment of tranquility and connection, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the serene experience of ocean travel. Each cabin and suite is a haven of peace, curated to create a seamless blend of luxury and harmony with the natural world.

Performance & Capabilities

Kenshō represents a paradigm in nautical engineering, seamlessly integrating performance with environmental consciousness. Her propulsion system is a testament to advanced marine technology, featuring a diesel-electric configuration that epitomizes efficiency and adaptability. The heart of Kenshō's mechanical prowess lies in her smart 2,850kW propulsion system, achieving a harmonious balance between power and sustainability, meriting her the Eco classification.

At the core of this innovative system are five variable-speed generators that collectively generate 3.5MW of energy. This robust setup powers a pair of Veth azimuth thrusters connected to cutting-edge Danfoss permanent-magnet motors. The azimuth propeller system provides excellent maneuverability and contributes to the vessel's smooth and quiet operation.

This flexible arrangement allows for an automatic transition between the three larger generators and two smaller ones, catering to the yacht's hotel load and propulsion needs with utmost efficiency. By eliminating the traditional shaft drive, Kenshō benefits from reduced noise and vibration, enhancing the onboard experience for guests.

Kenshō's cruising capabilities are impressive, with a comfortable cruising speed of 13 knots. This efficiency does not come at the expense of range; the intelligent energy management ensures that power is always available when and where it is needed, providing a seamless and uninterrupted cruising experience.

The innovation extends below deck, where the machinery is discreetly housed on the tank deck, allowing for more living space and less mechanical intrusion into the guest areas. Additionally, the vessel features a fully class-approved battery room, primed for the integration of silent running batteries, which would permit periods of emission-free, noiseless operation, aligning with the growing demand for eco-friendly yachting solutions.

Kenshō’s accommodations are a testament to the yacht's philosophy of seeing one's true nature. The spaces are crafted not just to be lived in but to be experienced, reflecting a deep understanding of the intricate balance between luxury, comfort, and the elemental beauty of the sea.
