Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 29'2" beam and a 7'7" draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 496 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in early 1984. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. She was delivered to her owners in December 1985.
Exterior Design
The exterior design of is characterized by its functional and straightforward elements. The yacht features a raked bow, which contributes to its streamlined profile and aids in cutting through the water efficiently. The deck is constructed from teak, providing durability and a classic nautical appearance. Both the hull and superstructure are painted white, creating a cohesive and clean look. The boot top is finished in black, adding a sharp contrast to the vessel's overall appearance. Below the waterline, the hull is treated with a dark blue antifoul coating, ensuring protection and performance.
O'Natalina's foremast for forward navigation lights, essential to meet Department of Trade rules, may appear unusual at first, but it aligns well with the overall sturdy design. The mast structure, dense with antennas, was designed with careful consideration for radar and satellite communication efficiency.
The bridge is equipped with large front windows, the maximum glass area allowed under Lloyd's regulations, and features parallel windscreen wipers on both the front and side windows. For ease of docking, there are outside wing stations with remote controls. The adjoining bridge-deck includes a sun-lounge that opens out onto an alfresco dining area through full-length plate-glass doors, which lock in any position.
On the main deck, there's an outdoor lounge area that is more protected from the elements, leading into the main saloon paneled in limed-oak with subdued color seating. The sun-deck offers ample space with various seating options, a bar, and a compact hi-fi unit. Central to this area is the aerodynamically-designed funnel, which efficiently directs exhaust away from the deck.
Interior Design
The interior design of O'Natalina prioritizes functionality and comfort, utilizing materials that are both durable and aesthetically pleasing. The main saloon features limed-oak paneling, providing a neutral and calming backdrop. Seating is arranged to encourage both relaxation and conversation, with upholstered pieces in subdued tones.
Forward of the main saloon is the dining room, which can accommodate twelve guests. This space can be closed off from the saloon, allowing for private dining or meetings. The dining room's decor maintains the understated elegance seen throughout the yacht, with similarly muted colors and high-quality materials.
Another notable interior space is the sun-lounge on the bridge deck. This area is decorated with a tropical theme, complete with exotic plants, and is referred to colloquially as 'the jungle.' The sun-lounge opens onto an alfresco dining area through full-length plate-glass doors, which can be locked in any position for convenience and security.
The bridge itself is fitted with modern electronic equipment for navigation and communication, avoiding overly elaborate displays. The adjoining radio room and captain's cabin are designed for practicality, ensuring that all essential operations can be managed efficiently.
