Hampton Yachts History & Heritage
The Hampton Yachts legacy dates back to 1965 when sailing enthusiast C.Y. Chen initiated the construction of sailing yachts under the Formosa brand.
These ocean-worthy vessels were crafted at a production facility in Taipei, Taiwan, marking the initial focus on sailing boats for the next couple of decades. As the global market for sailing vessels softened, the Chen family transitioned their expertise to the construction of ocean-going motor yachts.
In 1992, under the leadership of C.Y. Chen's son, Jeff Chen, the Hampton Yacht Building Company was officially established. The company relocated to Shanghai, China, expanding its production of highly capable motor yachts. Over the ensuing decades, Hampton diversified its offerings, collaborating with naval architect Howard Apollonio to develop its high-performance hybrid hull, a distinctive trademark.
Since its inception in 1965, the company has launched over 2,000 yachts. Presently, Hampton employs over 200 individuals, constructing each boat entirely at its facilities in Shanghai or at the second production plant in Taiwan, established to meet growing demand.
