Mangusta Yachts History & Heritage
Mangusta's yachts are not just vessels; they embody a distinctive blend of power and personality, reflecting the builder's unique DNA.
Established in 1985 by the Balducci family, the name Mangusta was a deliberate response to the leading brand of the time, Cobra, with a nod to the mongoose — a creature capable of defeating cobras. Founder Giuseppe Balducci, with a background in a historic Viareggio shipyard, initiated a legacy that continues under the family's management by his children, Maurizio and Katia.
From the outset, Mangusta embraced a bold and unconventional approach. The fusion of speed and size became a cornerstone of Mangusta's strategy, with a focus on crafting large sports yachts as their undeniable specialty. In the 1990s, Mangusta disrupted the norm with the introduction of the Mangusta 80, challenging the traditional limits of sports yachts by exceeding 18m (60ft) in length. This innovative model not only elevated speed and style but also prioritized onboard space, reshaping the expectations of sports yacht buyers and laying the foundation for the successful Maxi Open series.
