New British explorer specialist, Arksen, announces sale of first yacht

New British builder, Arksen, has announced its first Arksen 85 explorer yacht will be delivered in spring 2022, with the build process set to start on two more hulls this year.

New expedition yacht brand Arksen has announced the sale of the first Arksen 85 explorer yacht, Project Ocean.

The 26.2m vessel is marked out by a 7,000nm oceangoing range and a highly eco-conscious design and build focused on keeping its carbon footprint to a minimum.

Construction on Project Ocean began in September 2020 and she is set to be delivered in spring 2022. The Isle of Wight-based shipyard also revealed they will be beginning the build of two further Arksen 85s this year.

Arksen COO, Ewan Hind revealed the new Owner will be taking Project Ocean around the globe: “We are incredibly pleased to announce the sale of the first hybrid-powered Arksen 85 to clients who will be embarking on an exciting world-wide adventure”

He went on to announce the Owner will be taking his new yacht from the fjords of Norway, to the Mediterranean, Caribbean, US and Canada.

Project Ocean worked with Design Unlimited to develop a custom interior that blends comfort with the practical aspects needed for long-range cruising. Guests can enjoy panoramic views from the main saloon and bridge deck, whilst the lower deck offers accommodation for up to ten guests in four en-suite cabins.

Mark Tucker, Creative Director of Design Unlimited, explained more about this process: "By working closely with the owners on materials and details, we have developed an eclectic and comfortable interior that takes inspiration from boutique hotels and Nordic landscapes. These influences have been implemented through the careful use of timbers, textured fabrics and brass hardware.”

A strong focus on the environment sees Project Ocean powered by a full hybrid propulsion system giving a top speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of 9 to 11 knots providing a range of up to 7000nm. The hull and superstructure have been constructed from recycled aluminium that can be recycled again at the end of the vessels life. Even the interiors use a range of recycled and sustainable materials, with soft furnishings using recycled plastic bottles.
