Van der Valk in the Netherlands has commenced the construction of Project EVO, a fully customized 40-meter superyacht, marking the largest endeavor by the yard in terms of both length and volume.
The sleek exterior design, initially crafted by SFG Yacht Design and Fancy by Dada, has been further refined by Cristiano Gatto Design, which also spearheaded the intricate interior detailing. Furthermore, this all-aluminum bluewater cruiser boasts a round-bilged fast displacement hull, aiming for a top speed of 24 knots.
Ordered by seasoned clients with a history of high-performance yacht ownership, Project EVO represents a bespoke creation tailored to their family's desires. Opting for Dutch craftsmanship to ensure top-tier quality, the clients engaged a team of experts including naval architects from Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects. Adhering to ABS class standards, the superyacht will also meet the latest IMO Tier III emissions regulations.
My participation began on a micro level as we worked with the owners to leverage some specific furniture design concepts I had previously created. They were looking to recreate a similar ambience onboard their yacht and the interior design emerged from this point. Welcoming the results, the owners asked us to add some of this aesthetic flavor to the exterior design, further evolving the DNA of the preliminary concept penned by SFG and Fancy by Dada.

Project EVO's design process involved close collaboration with the clients, extending its length and volume to meet their vision. Inspired by designs from Franco Gianni of SFG Yacht Design and Doga Naz Cebeci from Fancy by Dada, Cristiano Gatto Design played a pivotal role in shaping the layout and interior style. While specifics of the bespoke interior remain confidential, Gatto notes the owners' satisfaction with the outcome, achieved within a commendable ten-month timeframe for a project of this scale.
The superyacht will offer luxurious accommodations for ten, featuring a master stateroom on the main deck, two twin guest suites, and two VIP cabins on the lower deck. Additionally, three ensuite double crew cabins will be situated in the forepeak adjacent to the mess, with the captain's quarters located on the bridge deck.
Project EVO is a fine example of how clients can come to Van der Valk with their own exterior designers without having to reinvent the wheel with a new hull, safe in the knowledge that their yacht will excel in terms of performance, speed, and stability.”
