Sonardyne unveils new 1.5km Vigilant forward-looking sonar

Technology firm Sonardyne International Ltd have introduced a new far reaching sonar called Vigilant FLS.

While forward-looking sonars are nothing new to the market, the outstanding 1.5km outreach makes the Vigilant FLS big news for larger vessels.

Suitable for both new builds and commissioned refits, the new Vigilant FLS can be mounted iin multiple ways such as permanent and through-hull deployment.

Designed to provide sub-surface awareness for commercial, passenger, naval and private vessels, Vigilant features easy to interpret imagery suitable for all navigators.

With an impressive range of 1.5km, the new Vigilant system is an ideal component for larger vessels needing more time to react to upcoming hazards.

Every day, we hear of ships of all types and all over the world running aground or colliding with unseen submerged objects, sadly including endangered mammals and ecosystems. The costs and consequences in all respects can be enormous. These incidents occur for many different reasons, some human, some technical, but in every case, there is a lack of subsurface situational awareness. Vigilant is an invaluable tool to help mariners avoid these situations.

Interfacing with third-party commands and control systems, Vigilant combines detailed 3D bathymetry with live, and past, tracking to provide advanced warnings of sand banks, shipwrecks, rocks and other hazardous obstacles ahead.

Two modes are integrated in to the system which are sonar and 3D. The sonar mode engages the 1.5km capability, along with alarms for ucoming hazards. The 3D mode on the other hand provides a more visual option with a colour coded bathymetry map, identifying the safety surrounding the vessel up to 600 metres.
