Southampton International Boat Show joins list of cancelled 2020 yacht events

The Southampton International Boat Show (SIBS) has become the latest yacht show in 2020 to face cancellation due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Organisers of SIBS, British Marine, announced the cancellation of the 2020 event due to continuing restrictions in place resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, however time tells whether or not there may be a smaller event to take place later on in 2020.

Attracting around 100,000 visitors every year, the biggest British yachting event will be missing out on it's 52nd edition in 2020, but organisers are keen to put on an even more magnificent show in 2021.

Established in 1969, the 10 day event now makes use of Europe's largest purpose built marina, measuring over 50,000 square metres. Around 100 new boats and yachts for sale make their debuts at the top 10 show every year.

The world is in an unprecedented situation with the COVID-19 pandemic and public health is everyone’s priority. An event of this size and format is simply not possible this year and as such, we have made the decision to postpone it until September 2021.

Although the main event has unsurprisingly joined the list of other cancelled shows like the Monaco Yacht Show, British Marine are continuing to await further news from the British government regarding further relaxations of COVID-19 restrictions in upcoming weeks.

Depending on the upcoming events to be released by authorities, British Marine are 'continuing to explore the options to run an alternative, smaller scale outdoor event'.
