Tankoa introduces eco-conscious superyacht project Milano

Diesel-electric propulsion systems and fuel cell technology to significantly reduce emissions.

Tankoa Yachts has looked ahead to the future of yachting with its latest project Milano, choosing diesel-electric propulsion for immediate emissions reduction, while also exploring fuel cell technology for even cleaner cruising.

At 70m (230ft) in length, the Milano yacht concept offers accommodations for up to 14 guests, including two spacious main deck staterooms with balconies. The master suite, positioned on the upper deck, boasts a generous footprint along with a private pool and access to a helipad on the bow.

Designed by Nauta Design, the yacht aims to form an intimate connection with its surrounding environment, with features such as a large pool integrated into the open-air beach area. Fold-down platforms further enhance onboard usability and blend indoor and outdoor spaces.

Dedicated storage areas have also been designed for water toys and tenders, ensuring endless opportunities for leisure and entertainment. The lower deck features 12 cabins for guests, along with crew accommodations, a gym, and a laundry room. A cinema room and additional sundeck lounging areas further enhance the onboard experience.

For propulsion, Tankoa has opted for electric motors paired with variable-speed gensets, delivering a top speed of 16.5 knots. Additionally, the inclusion of fuel cells in the future aims to further reduce environmental impact. Methanol fuel cells are favored for their ease of storage and lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional hydrogen options.

All of the required propulsion systems are located on the under-lower deck to ensure uninterrupted access to amenities and a high level of comfort for guests due to reduced noise levels.
