Palm Beach Motor Yachts History & Heritage

Palm Beach was founded in 1995 by Mark Richards, a well-known former professional sailboat racer, and named after the shipyard’s location – the exclusive beachfront community north of Sydney best known for being the setting of the TV soap opera Home & Away.

For the first four years, it built sailing yachts but switched to producing luxury motor yachts in 1999. The first model launched was the Palm Beach 38, which set the template for the current Palm Beach range of yachts. Two decades on, they’ve got bigger and faster but little else has changed.

The Palm Beach marque has been owned by Grand Banks since 2015 and shares similar brand values. Like Grand Banks, Palm Beach uses a factory-direct sales model. Rather than having a network of independent dealers, it employs its own sales reps in key locations and offers a carefully orchestrated buying experience.

For anyone purchasing a Palm Beach yacht, they are generally built to order, but stock boats are sometimes available. Some models are still built at Palm Beach Yachts’ original shipyard in Australia, while others, including the GT range, are now built at the Grand Banks factory in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
