Azimut Magellano 30M Review (2024 Edition)

The Azimut Magellano 30 Metri made its premiere at the 2024 Miami Boat Show and it is the latest and largest addition to the eye-catching Magellano range

This Magellano 30 Metri has the familiar Magellano essence, now with an exterior design by Ken Freivokh. From the outside, the 30M's sleek lines hide its generous volume, extending to an impressively designed aft deck. Step inside, and the main deck houses a spacious saloon and dining area, while the upper deck offers a cosier lounge.

Propelled by twin 1,900hp MAN V12 engines, the Magellano 30 Metri reaches a fast cruising speed of 18 knots, covering around 500nm, and stretches to approximately 1,200nm at displacement speed. With five cabins on board and multiple innovative features, is this the most stylish 100ft yacht on the market?

Design & Build

The Azimut Magellano 30M has a blend of exterior and interior design that is hard to ignore. The exteriors are by superyacht designer Ken Freivokh, while the art deco-inspired interior is by Vincenzo De Cotiis. The 'dual-mode' hull design is a collaboration between P.L. AUSONIO Naval Architecture and Azimut’s in-house R&D Department. This new flagship from Azimut is a real head-turner.

One of the standout features of the Magellano 30M is its use of materials. De Cotiss and Azimut have turned fibreglass into an art form, developing a new variant specifically for this model. This unique material has been worked and polished, becoming a key style element onboard. The floating slat design in the cockpit area is echoed inside as smaller lighting fixtures in the guest cabins and saloons. This design detail, seen throughout the Magellano range, works exceptionally well here, it looks good and protects from the elements outside.

With five cabins, including four guest staterooms on the lower deck and a stunning full-beam owner’s suite on the main deck, the 30 Metri has plenty of space and luxury for all on board. The owner’s suite, situated forward has been designed to give incredible views and a sense of privacy at the same time. Natural ventilation is another key focus, with Azimut installing a UTA air extraction system to refresh and filter the interior air.

The main deck features a well-positioned day head, allowing guests to use the facilities without having to venture downstairs during the day. The staircase leading down to the guest cabins is a bit gloomy and would benefit from enhanced lighting, but it does offer a substantial amount of storage space.

Symmetrical decks provide equal access on both sides along the main deck, enhancing the yacht's usability and ensuring easy movement throughout. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the design across this boat. Take, the stainless steel railings on the side decks  – they are beautifully shaped, really hefty and practical but still so stylish.

Unlike traditional designs, the top deck isn’t connected on the 30 Metri. To move aft, you must descend and go up again via the side decks and main deck, or use the side door in the pilot house to access the upper saloon and aft deck. This design is not particularly ideal if you’ve just been in the foredeck hot tub, but it is what gives the boat its lovely narrow profile – a bit of a payoff.

Interior Accommodation

The saloon of the Azimut Magellano 30M makes an immediate impression with electric sliding doors that open up into a striking space. The design focus here is clearly on maximising the views, and it’s achieved brilliantly with an abundance of glass and low, half-height furniture that doesn’t obstruct the sightlines. It’s lovely and bright, offering fantastic vistas from every angle within this space.

The TV cleverly drops down from a ceiling panel. Very convenient if you’re seated on the sofas lined up along one side, but less ideal for those seated opposite. A smart central cabinet separates the lounging area from the dining space and the dining area itself boasts a really lovely big table, perfect for hosting dinners with a view surrounded by all this glass.

Storage is hidden behind gold-lined white panels next to the dining table. You’d be completely clueless to the fact that behind these panels lie deep cupboards for dry stores, crockery, and more, maintaining a clean and uncluttered look.

The galley is nicely tucked away from the guest areas, accessed from next to the dining area, and offers a superb space for the kitchen crew. There's a pantry with a wine cooler and coffee machine, a microwave, two large domestic-sized fridge freezers, a big Miele oven, and an induction cooktop. There’s loads of counter space and big windows that provide plenty of natural light and decent views over the water, so the chef feels connected to the outside. It's a really classy kitchen, finished in glossy-white flush cabinets and white countertops.

The upper saloon on the Azimut Magellano 30M is a much more cosier and intimate space, good for unwinding after a dinner out on deck. Seated on the sofas, there's a fantastic view out over the water as it's an elevated position. There's another pop-up TV that comes down from the ceiling, like the TV downstairs. Additionally, this area includes the helm station, which can be partitioned off with a pocket door, granting the skipper or guests privacy while on passage.

Owner's Cabin

Positioned right forward on the main deck, the owner's cabin has a grand entrance that sets the tone for the entire stateroom. Round golden portholes give natural light and storage is hidden all around the lobby, including a fridge for late-night refreshments and lots of hanging space for clothing. The passageway is covered in white and blue marble, and leads you to a stateroom that feels very welcoming.

The floating bureau includes pop-up sections for stowing away makeup and other essentials, and a rotating mirror that not only looks like its floating. The bureau faces out of enormous windows and these windows are simply striking from both inside and out. Azimut have installed mirrored panels above the windows and these help bounce the light around the cabin.

The tops of the side tables in the cabin slide open for more storage, along with plugs for charging devices and repeaters for controlling the lights from the bed. The electric blinds can be operated with a remote control as well.

The bed itself is nice and big, with a totally flat floor around it and plenty of headroom. The ensuite bathroom is equally impressive, featuring twin sinks, a separate toilet, and a shower cubicle. It's a beautiful space that complements the rest of the cabin perfectly.

Guest Accommodation

The Azimut Magellano 30M has four guest cabins on the lower deck. Amidships, there are the double cabins, and the forward section hosts the two twin cabins. The twins are particularly flexible - they can slide together to form a double or remain apart as two singles, good for chartering as it allows for adaptable sleeping arrangements depending on the guest list.

The twins have a good space in them, with TVs mounted on the walls, hanging wardrobes for storage, and each cabin comes with its own separate bathroom.

The double stateroom has a sort-of Great Gatsby vibe, like a 1950s ocean liner with art deco touches. It's a marvellous space, featuring a bureau and an enormous hull window (like an elongated porthole) giving natural light, eliminating any sense of being shut in. The VIP stateroom also includes plenty of storage and a large TV mounted on the bulkhead, along with its own separate bathroom.

Despite the dark lobbies as it is the lower deck, the cabins themselves are well-lit and spacious.

Helm Station

The helm station is dominated by triple Simrad MFDs, delivering a fully digital switching system. Every system on the boat can be controlled through these screens, from navigation to radar. This is a shaft drive boat, with traditional throttles as well as an optional joystick for manoeuvrability. The joystick allows you to twist and push, using thrusters and engines to move the boat in any direction.

The 30 Metri is equipped with powerful 1,900hp engines, giving you a top speed of about 25 knots. At cruising speeds of 17-18 knots, the semi-planing dual-mode hull and vertical bow help efficiency by about 20% (compared to traditional hard-chine hulls of a similar size). It’s designed for efficient, long-distance cruising but can still get up to speed when you need to make a quick move.

On Deck

At the stern, the big transom panel drops down to create an extended bathing platform and I can confirm that it houses a tender garage spacious enough for a Williams tender and a jet ski.

The cockpit is specced with lots of lounging space in the cockpit, rather than a dining setup, which is reserved for the flybridge on this model. This area is ideal for enjoying a drink in the shade while overlooking the water. The cockpit is another place where they have deliberately kept the furniture low down to preserve good sightlines out across the water.

There's an automatic shade that comes out from above and it also provides privacy when you're moored stern-to. The staircase that links these two decks is a lovely part of the design - a very nice bit of architecture.

The side decks lead up towards the foredeck where a pair of wing stations are on both sides of the yacht. These stations are complete with throttles, thrusters, and engine dials, and are essential for the skipper during slow-speed manoeuvring. The positioning is spot-on, providing a high vantage point to look forward, aft, and down the side of the boat. When not in use, they roll over and away, maintaining the exterior's unbroken look.

There are design delights all over the place on deck

This foredeck is full of surprises, like a hot tub - a lovely addition that ups the luxury feel. The design here is anything but uniform, with lots of interesting shapes, and there’s a generous sunbathing space and a comfortable sofa.

Six poles slot into the deck so a canvas can be stretched overhead for shade. Additionally, the foredeck has substantial deck gear including twin anchors in a very large anchor locker.

Unlike the Princess X95, which offers direct connectivity from the foredeck to the aft deck, the Magellano 30M requires you to access it from inside the boat.

The upper aft deck of the Azimut Magellano 30M is one of the best areas on board - a beautifully designed, big space that combines various living areas. What immediately catches your eye are the gorgeous, big sun cushions, inviting you to lounge on. There's even the option of some overhead shade, ensuring you can relax here no matter the time of day.

Towards the back of the deck, there's a nicely located barbecue. Placing it here means all the cooking smells blow away from guests in the main deck area. The bar area is substantial with a really nice finish and offering cooling space, storage, and a sink. It's a brilliant spot for guests to gather, have a drink, and soak in the fabulous views over the water.

This is the place for al fresco dining with a grand 12-person dining table, sheltered under the hardtop.

Engine Room

To access the engine room, there are two deck hatches in the cockpit: One hatch leads to the generators, while the main hatch allows entry into the aft end of the engine room using a ladder. The two V12 1,900hp MAN engines are on the same block as the other engine option, the 1,550s, so you don't get any extra space if you opt for smaller engines. Still, there’s plenty of room to manoeuvre, both around and above them.

This space is well laid out, even if it feels quite busy with large components. The 30 Metri uses fin stabilisers for at-rest and in-motion stabilisation and has two large generators on either side. A significant addition is the 130 kW/hour battery bank, enabling you to run the hotel load overnight or for about four hours during the day without needing to turn on the generators. Daily checks and maintenance are relatively straightforward, thanks to the smart layout.

Our Verdict

With its Ken Freivokh exterior and Vincenzo De Cotiis’ art deco style interior, the Azimut Magellano 30M is a serious head-turner. The semi-planing dual-mode hull, propelled by twin 1,900hp MAN V12 engines, promises to deliver an efficient performance without compromising on speed.

Stepping inside, the full-beam owner's suite on the main deck is absolutely lovely, boasting gorgeous views and clever storage solutions. The lower deck's guest cabins are spacious and flexible, perfect for charter versatility. The main saloon is bathed in light thanks to the extensive use of glass and low-profile furniture, preserving sightlines.

The foredeck offers sunbathing and hot tub options, while the expansive top deck is a real treat with its 12-person dining table and bar area. The aft tender garage, which extends to form a bathing platform, is a neat touch, although it’s a bit disappointing that the top deck isn't fully connected.

Rivals to Consider

When it comes to sheer performance, the Riva 102' Corsaro Super leaves the Azimut Magellano 30M in its wake, cruising at 23 knots and reaching a healthy top-speed of 28 knots. Designed by Officina Italiana Design, the Corsaro Super boasts a sleek, aggressive profile that commands attention on the water, and with a spacious beach club at the stern, it enhances the outdoor living experience beautifully.

In this sector, the Sanlorenzo SL96 Asymmetric also impresses, cruising comfortably at 24 knots, proving itself a very, very worthy contender for those who crave that burst of power. This yacht features a unique asymmetric design that maximises space aboard, providing fabulous views from the interior and setting it apart with its innovative design solutions.

Meanwhile, the Arcadia A105, matching the Magellano 30M's leisurely 15-knot pace, prioritises a smooth, comfortable ride over racing across the waves, making it a great-looking boat for those who enjoy a more relaxed, slow-speed driving experience. Arcadia's eco-friendly approach shines through with solar panels integrated into the superstructure, offering sustainable energy solutions that align with modern environmental considerations.

Accommodation-wise, the Azimut Magellano 30M, with its versatile five-cabin layout, accommodates up to 10 guests, right up there with rivals like the Arcadia A105 and the now discontinued Princess X95. The main deck owner's stateroom is a real treat, with an ensuite bathroom, dressing table, and sofa - absolutely lovely for an intimate retreat.

On the flip side, the Gulf Craft 95 SUV caters to slightly smaller groups of eight guests across four cabins, yet still provides an incredibly comfortable yachting experience for family getaways. The Gulf Craft 95 SUV has a hybrid hull design, offering a perfect blend of performance and fuel efficiency, which is ideal for eco-conscious owners.

If your eye is on long-range cruising, the Extra Yachts X96 Triplex is hard to beat as it has an impressive range of 2,000nm. This yacht is great for adventurers seeking to explore vast stretches of ocean. Its tri-deck layout includes expansive outdoor areas and a luxurious main deck with floor-to-ceiling windows, providing panoramic views and a connection to the sea.
