On Deck

On board, there is a barbecue on the bathing platform and a cockpit seating area with docking controls for stern-to berthing. On the side decks, the storm shutters for the saloon windows and the EPIRB distress beacon are highlighted.

Up on the fly bridge, the seating area, the helm, and the radar arch with radar and satellite TV antenna are showcased. There is a life raft, a storage area that holds a tender with a 60 horsepower engine, and a crane for lifting the tender.

Interior

The yacht has a spacious interior, attributing this to the small side deck, which makes sense for a long-distance cruiser.  There are classic Nordhavn features like the teak finish, the open saloon area, the galley on the same level, and the wine cooler. The boat has a "little ship feel", especially when stepping into the wheelhouse.

In the lower decks there is a centrally located master cabin.  This location reduces motion when cruising. He also points out the ensuite with a separate shower area, the laundry facilities, and ample storage space. The Nordhavn 57 also accommodates a bunk cabin and a double bed cabin in the bow, which share a separate shower area and a toilet.

Performance

In the engine space the electrical systems control area can be seen, and the John Deere 340 horsepower main engine and the 85 horsepower wing engine.  These give the boat about 10-11 knots flat out, cruising at 8 knots will provide 3,500 nautical miles of range. There are also two generators, a water maker, and an Atlas Marine power converter.

As the boat is out of water, the Nordhavn 57's displacement cruising design can be clearly seen. There are fin stabilizers which help keep the boat steady, as well as the keel cooler which helps cool the boat's main engine with a closed water system.

Also shown under the water line is the stern thruster, the main engine and the backup wing engine with a folding propeller. The boat's design is found to be very practical, as it includes a removable circular section permitting the rudder to be turned at 90 degrees and the prop shafts to be withdrawn.

In Summary

Nick is visibly impressed with the Nordhavn 57's design. It's clear that he appreciates the practicality of the yacht, its self-sufficiency, and its ability to withstand severe sea conditions.
