Design & Build

The 90 Ocean Yacht showcases intelligent and innovative design, and with the possibility of a fully enclosed upper deck in place of the flybridge, the yacht delivers Sunseeker's vision of a distinct superyacht entity within its Yacht range. Furthermore, the coexistence of the 88 and 90 models, both boasting four cabins and impressive speed, underscores Sunseeker's commitment to versatility.

The 90 Ocean stands out with its expansive appearance, featuring a broader beam than the 88 model. With a width of 7.16m (23.6ft), the 90 offers exceptional interior volume, surpassing many yachts in its class. Its sleek superstructure also exudes the presence of a larger vessel, setting it apart from its counterparts.

Despite being 10 tons heavier than the 88, the 90 maintains comparable speed, reaching a top speed of 26 knots with smaller engines. This efficiency, combined with its voluminous layout, positions the 90 as an ideal long-distance cruiser.

The 90 Ocean's wide-beam, high-volume design is a defining feature, enabling Sunseeker to maximize interior space. However, before exploring the interior, let's highlight some significant design elements on the deck.

Starting with the stern design, the yacht boasts a swim platform and main deck, creating two tiers of waterside terraces. The patented X-Tend multi-function transom door adds a futuristic touch, resembling something out of a Transformer movie. Additionally, features like the bar, barbecue, and expansive hydraulic platform make this area ideal for entertaining.

Moving to the flybridge, the helm position can be fully enclosed, transforming it into an air-conditioned upper lounge. This Enclosed version of the 90 presents buyers with intriguing options for the main deck layout.

Interior Accommodation

Inside the four-cabin layout of the 90 Ocean, there's much to appreciate, with one notable exception: the absence of a main deck owner's stateroom. While this feature is common among its competitors, Sunseeker's decision to omit it is part of its overall interior strategy, which has proven successful.

The main deck is where the design truly shines. The expansive salon, enveloped in glass, offers endless layout possibilities, thanks to bespoke free-standing furniture options that buyers can customize to their preferences. The focal point of the salon is undoubtedly the immense, almost surreal, full-height windows that provide uninterrupted views of the surroundings. To enhance the experience, the glass transitions into sliding doors on the port side, further blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living.

Forward, the galley serves as a natural partition to the lower helm, offering flexibility for creating a convivial bar area when integrated with the salon. Alternatively, it can be closed off to facilitate full charter mode, with crew service facilitated by a side-deck door.

Adjacent, a raised lounge beneath the windscreen provides an intimate setting for morning coffees or evening drinks, connecting with both the salon and helm. This space also allows guests to join the captain during extended passages, enhancing onboard camaraderie.

Opting for the Enclosed version of the 90 transforms the main deck into a spacious, unified salon extending from the cockpit doors to the forward screen. With the removal of the lower helm and galley bulkhead, the layout maximizes the lounge area, creating an expansive and open environment. The dining table and galley are relocated forward, leaving ample space for relaxation and socializing.

Additionally, the Enclosed version offers a private upper lounge with customizable layout options, providing added versatility and comfort. While the standard open flybridge configuration meets most needs, those who prefer a more social atmosphere or seek climate-controlled comfort in hot climates may find the Enclosed option appealing.

The cabin layout aboard the 90 Ocean Yacht is refreshingly straightforward yet distinct from conventional designs. Below deck, the cabins are divided into two distinct areas accessible from a central salon stairwell. The full-beam owner’s stateroom is flanked by two ensuite guest cabins, fostering a familial ambiance ideal for gatherings among friends or family.

In the owner’s stateroom, amenities include a lounge area, spacious walk-in closet, and ensuite bathroom boasting deep hull windows on either side. The layout offers flexibility for customization, extending to the guest cabins where twin or double berths can be easily accommodated.

Adding to the family atmosphere is the forward VIP cabin, accessible via a dedicated stairwell. Featuring an ensuite bathroom and walk-in closet, this cabin offers a perfect blend of privacy and luxury, highlighted by its expansive layout and two striking hull windows, reminiscent of those found in the owner’s stateroom.

Helm Station

As previously mentioned, the lower helm is essentially an optional feature. While many owners may prioritize the air-conditioned upper deck offered by the Enclosed version of the 90, the absence of the lower helm would indeed be a loss.

The design of the lower helm area provides ample space, featuring two pedestal seats strategically positioned for easy access by the captain and navigator. The console accommodates two large multifunction displays (MFDs), and visibility is outstanding, complemented by expansive skylights that enhance the open, panoramic feel of the space.

Positioned forward to port, the flybridge helm remains discreetly tucked behind the wet bar, featuring two sturdy bucket seats that echo the yacht's impressive 26-knot performance. The helm design is cleverly arranged, featuring a well-organized console along the port side housing throttle and thruster controls. In the Enclosed version, the helm is centrally located, boasting an extended console and tall pedestal seats for enhanced functionality and comfort.

Deck Lifestyle

The choice between the open flybridge and the enclosed upper deck may be significant, but the true highlight awaits at the stern.

The 90 Ocean unveils two tiers of luxurious terraces, starting with the lower swim platform spacious enough to accommodate multiple loungers. Here, a cleverly integrated fold-out bar and barbecue, nestled within the yacht's protective flanks, enhance the outdoor experience. However, what truly sets this lower terrace apart is the innovative X-Tend transom door system. This ingenious mechanism effortlessly lifts, hinges, and transforms from a conventional storage garage door into two expansive, aft-facing lounge seats.

The terrace boasts a hydraulic platform designed for tender launch and recovery, doubling as a submerged deck for swimming.

Above, the upper terrace offers an elevated vantage point, with aft-facing seating arranged to provide a panoramic view. A glass screen enhances visibility, offering unobstructed vistas across the swim platform and beyond.

Navigating from the stern to the bow is facilitated by two exceptionally safe side decks, where tall, chest-high bulwarks and glass cut-outs ensure a memorable journey forward. Upon arrival at the forward lounge, guests are greeted with a spectacular setting, featuring ample seating and a central sun pad for relaxation.

Now, onto the pivotal feature: the flybridge. Traditionally, this is the centerpiece of yachts like this, and choosing between an open or enclosed deck offers versatility.

Open or Enclosed?

The standard yacht’s open flybridge is far from ordinary, boasting a spacious hardtop that covers most of it, with an equally expansive electric sunroof that opens up the deck as needed. It's notably larger than its counterpart, the 88, providing ample space for various activities. Architectural A-pillars not only support the hardtop but also provide a sense of privacy and luxury for guests at the dining table or bar.

At the aft of the flybridge, there's flexibility to accommodate features like a pool, fixed lounge seating, or multiple loungers. Adding to the upper deck ambiance is a teak-capped glass screen across the aft, a hallmark of superyacht design that offers both projection and panoramic views for guests.

The Enclosed version still offers a generous section of open deck aft, which can be customized with seating or left clear for versatility.

Value For Money

In terms of value, the 90 Ocean competes favorably with its rivals, offering a compelling combination of style, scale, and sophistication. However, there's an additional dimension to consider: Sunseeker's proven track record of consistently delivering large semi-custom yachts that are not only impressive but also ready for immediate use and enjoyment.

Sunseeker stands out among yacht builders for its exceptional ability to craft top-quality yachts ranging from 20-40m (66-131ft) at an impressive pace. Renowned for blending production efficiency with bespoke craftsmanship, Sunseeker offers buyers the opportunity to create highly personalized yachts, even collaborating with external designers when desired.

One distinguishing feature that sets the Sunseeker 90 Ocean Yacht apart in this competitive market is the option for an Enclosed upper deck. This design choice, combined with the yacht's array of other features, presents a truly distinctive proposition for buyers seeking both luxury and versatility.

Our Verdict

The 90 Ocean Yacht shows off Sunseeker's creativity and daring. It is a yacht that goes its way and does so in style. The entire main deck is a joy, full of versatile space and options, the aft-facing terrace and X-Tend transom the star features guests will love. The cabin layout delivers privacy and luxury in a uniquely versatile layout. Behind the scenes, Sunseeker's design team is to be commended for using every inch of this yacht so intelligently, there is also a highly efficient fast cruising hull, expert construction, and true semi-custom personalization with the option of that Enclosed upper deck. The result is a yacht that begs to be used and enjoyed and, in the end, that's what it's all about.

Rivals to Consider

Big fast flybridge models that can easily and justifiably be called superyachts are hardly a rarity. The Italian builders Azimut, Ferretti, and Riva are obvious rivals, all offering yachts just as impressive as the 90 Ocean and all with a main deck Owner's cabin but none, we think, offering the Enclosed option.

The Riva 90 Argo is a four-cabin yacht, with a fabulous full-beam VIP that could potentially be split into two doubles, offering an exquisite level of design and finish. The Ferretti 920 is an older design but one that is fast and still fabulous with five cabins. Sanlorenzo, as ever, has several yachts that could go against this Sunseeker, its SL86 is a notable example with a very similar four-cabin layout.

One yacht that matches the Sunseeker on layout, performance and the option of an enclosed flybridge is the Hatteras M90 and its very social open-plan main deck and legendary build quality.
