MAN’s mid-range models are 16-litre V8 diesels with common-rail fuel injection and a power range of 1,000 to 1,300hp. The top-of-the-range model is notable for its impressive power density of 59kW per litre of displacement, which makes it a particularly compact installation with a high power-to-weight ratio.
An improved injection system and new turbocharger were recently added to the range. Like all MAN yacht engines, a key feature of the V8 series is its broad torque plateau, which delivers maximum torque (of up to 4,350Nm) consistently from 1,200rpm up to 2,100rpm. Emissions-wise, they’re EPA Tier 3 (recreational), IMO 2 and EU/RCD compliant.
