Description
M/Y Monara was built at the Feadship yard of De Vries in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands. Monara was the beginning of the “Italian affair” that saw the collaboration between Feadship and Carlo Riva for the build of the Caravelle Series.
Now returned to her original name, Monara was once the pride and joy of a wealthy Milanese banking family, then an English lord, and had welcomed Spanish royalty aboard in her time.
In 2016 the major rebuild of the Monara was successfully completed at Feadship’s yard in Makkum. The extensive project was carried by the dedicated Feadship refit department in close cooperation with the owner’s team. It reinforces the priceless value of having a Feadship refitted by Feadship itself in terms of both the inherent quality and preservation of Feadship brand status.
Monara's eight cylinder Gardner engines run so smoothly it allows you to place a 40-pence coin on its side on the rocker cover and it will remain there for as long as you leave it. These engines are the star of the refitted Monara. Feadship reinstalled the engines and fitted a triple-glazed soundproof window,
so the owner and guests could admire the engines below.
Although the Feadship team advised in their original survey that much of the interior could be salvaged, the current owner was determined to start again. Monara has an airy ambiance: all the windows in the lounge and portholes in the cabins can be opened. The varnished teak has been replaced with dark-stained oak and a walk-in wardrobe added instead of lockers, reflecting the way people travel lighter today.
The bridge was also given a clever dual personality. At a touch of a button the state-of-the-art navigation displays lowers out of view, covered with a dark oak lid that turns the bridge into a buffet for entertaining. Elsewhere, the boat has been returned to something closer to her original state. The copious cabinetry that you’d expect to see on a vessel of this vintage remains
Since completing the rebuild, Monara has been maintained to an excellent standard and has proven to be a successful classic yacht on the charter market.
