The 170'7" motor yacht Lightning was delivered to her owners in 2004 by Dutch shipyard Amels. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Terence Disdale, while Amels is responsible for her naval architecture.

Key Features

  • Spacious open-air top deck
  • Terence Disdale designed neutral interior
  • Foredeck crane for tender launching
  • Stern platform and spacious lazarette

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 29'6" beam and a 10' draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 609 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Lightning showcases a straightforward yet elegant aesthetic. The yacht features a raked bow, which contributes to its sleek profile and efficient cruising capabilities. The hull is painted in a clean, crisp white, complemented by the white superstructure. The boot top and below the waterline areas are finished in black, providing a striking contrast to the overall design. This combination of colors emphasizes the yacht's modern and sophisticated appearance.

The yacht features an extended top deck, providing ample open-air living space favored by charter guests. The stern platform and spacious lazarette enhance the yacht's ability to carry and deploy various watersports equipment efficiently.

Lightning's tenders are strategically carried on the foredeck and launched using a centrally-placed crane. During ocean passages, the tenders are relocated to aft positions on the upper and top decks, facilitated by a hydraulic crane on the upper deck that can lift up to 2 tons.

Interior Design

The interior design of Lightning reflects a consistent approach, with a focus on functionality and understated elegance. The yacht employs a neutral palette, utilizing calm colors and natural materials to create a timeless aesthetic. The interior spaces are dominated by off-white wool carpets and oak joinery, matte-varnished with a hint of white. This decor runs uniformly throughout the vessel, with all edges and corners of the joinery uniformly curved. Fluting is applied as a paneling detail, maintaining a cohesive look.

The main deck saloon features a dining table made from burr oak. Its surface has been gently sanded to retain the texture of the grain. This table can be extended to accommodate twelve guests by pulling apart the two halves and fitting additional leaves stored inside the base.

The upper saloon is a notable area on board, characterized by its semi-circular glass doors that create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. A glass-topped table is centrally placed, and with the doors open, the saloon becomes a semi-open terrace that leads out onto the deck.

The yacht's interior woodwork is provided by Metrica, ensuring high-quality finishes and fittings. The bathrooms are fitted with beige-colored marble featuring nougat veining, cut into a raised-and-fielded pattern of panels. This design choice is particularly evident in the owner's ensuite bathroom.

The layout includes a professionally designed galley with a central counter illuminated by warm lamps, resembling a pass-through in a restaurant kitchen. A dumbwaiter connects the galley to an upper deck pantry and the sun deck, which is equipped for serving informal meals.

Accommodation

Lightning offers accommodation for up to 12 guests across a variety of well-appointed cabins. The main deck features a spacious owner's suite, designed to maximize comfort and privacy. This suite includes a double bed offset to port, creating a relaxed seating area with its own television. The suite also boasts a study area, open-plan for additional space, and a dressing room leading into an ensuite bathroom, which is equipped with his-and-hers washbasins, a bath, and a shower.

Additionally, a smaller stateroom is located behind the owner's suite. This room can accommodate two guests or personal staff, providing flexibility based on the owner's needs.

On the lower deck, Lightning offers two separate double guest staterooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. Further aft, there are two twin staterooms, also equipped with ensuite facilities. An additional double stateroom is found on the upper deck.

For the crew, Lightning provides accommodation for 13 members. The crew quarters are strategically located on the lower deck, forward of the engine room, with cabins set back from the bow to ensure comfort during voyages.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Cummins (KTA38 M2) 1,199hp engines, motor yacht Lightning is capable of reaching a top speed of 15 knots, and comfortably cruises at 13 knots. With her 30,908 gallon fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,758 nautical miles.
