The 54m motor yacht Maridome was delivered to her owners in 1989 by British shipyard Brooke Marine. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Bannenberg & Rowell, while Diana Yacht Design is responsible for her naval architecture.

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 11.8m beam and a 2.8m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 1,042 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in mid 1988. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Maridome is defined by its practical and straightforward elements. The yacht features a clipper bow, providing a classic and functional shape that enhances its seaworthiness. The deck is constructed from teak, a material known for its durability and resistance to harsh marine environments.

The hull and superstructure are both painted white, offering a clean and consistent appearance. This is contrasted by the black boot top and below-the-waterline colors, which are both practical choices for maintenance and visual clarity. This combination of colors and materials ensures that Maridome is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

A notable feature of Maridome's exterior is the housing of her two tenders in twin garages located on the main deck amidships. These garages are concealed by two large 9-meter doors that swing open to reveal the tenders, which are deployed using horizontally extending hydraulic davits.

The lido deck sits above the main superstructure. It includes an enclosed lobby with a small pantry and washrooms. Sliding glass doors lead to a large sun deck, centered around a 7,000-liter spa pool. This area also features an outdoor barbecue bar equipped with teak chairs designed to withstand wet conditions. The owner's diving hobby is accommodated by a 'wet deck' aft of the engine room, complete with equipment stores, a gymnasium, and a sauna. An entire section of the transom can be hydraulically lowered to create a mini-dock, providing easy access to the water.

Interior Design

The interior design of the yacht Maridome is characterized by its modern style and high-quality materials. The joinery, furniture, carpets, soft furnishings, and interior fittings were crafted by Rincklake van Endert of Germany, following Jon Bannenberg's designs. The aesthetic includes extensive use of marble, silk, bird's eye maple, and pale lacquer-work, creating a bright and welcoming environment.

The main saloon is illuminated by large round windows and features a 20-shade blue 'pebble-beach' carpet. White leather sofas and easy chairs are arranged around a marble-topped table with an illuminated base that conceals hi-fi and other controls. Additional seating includes formal upright chairs and a snakeskin-topped games table. A black lacquer Yamaha 'Disclavier' boudoir grand piano is positioned to starboard, aft. The ceiling is pale blue lacquer with inset panels and concealed lighting, supplemented by matt Perspex column moldings.

A notable feature is the curved double staircase in the amidships lobby, which rises through two decks and includes mirror-backed, underlit, cantilevered marble treads and curved Perspex handrails.

The dining room, located forward of the galley, is similarly open and bright, thanks to large circular windows. It houses a substantial white marble-topped table, 3.2 meters long and weighing 600 kilograms. The room's decor features blue tones, lacquered ceiling, bird's eye maple wall paneling, dark-blue leather upholstered chairs, and another 'pebble beach' carpet.

Above the main saloon is an area best described as the night-club, divided by a full-service bar that features a 1:50 scale model of Maridome by David Fawcett. The bar also conceals advanced electronics, accessible via a sliding black glass panel. The casino, located aft of the bar along one side of the dance floor, includes four video game machines. Double doors open to the main outdoor dining area.

The owner's study, situated forward of the upper saloon, is a serious space with a large desk, red-leather chairs, and a model of the McKay clipper Flying Cloud. The study includes an office-style swivel chair for use with the IBM PC and communications controls.

Finally, the bridge, with its aircraft-like feel, includes banks of instruments and controls set in black panels with dark grey leather surrounds. Leather tub chairs are positioned in each corner for comfort. The bridge also includes a lobby that functions as the chart and radio room.

Accommodation

Maridome can host up to 10 guests in well-appointed cabins. The guest suites are thoughtfully named and decorated to reflect the historical style of famous ships. Each suite includes specially-made fabrics, carpets, and curtains, adding a unique touch to the onboard experience. 

The owner's suite on Maridome is particularly notable for its design and amenities. This private duplex apartment spans the full beam, providing an expansive and luxurious living space. The full-width day room features a 180-degree wall of windows, silk ceiling panels, oyster wool carpets, and pale marble table surfaces, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. Located on the lower level, the bedroom maintains a modern, slightly Art-Deco style. Key features include a Chinese silk tapestry of elephants as the bedhead and a pleated silk ceiling that rolls back to reveal a star constellation. The owner's suite also offers separate, luxurious bathroom facilities.

Maridome is served by a dedicated crew of 14. The crew quarters are designed for convenience and comfort, featuring a mess-room and series of twin cabins. Each cabin comes with its own washroom, ensuring that crew members have private and comfortable living spaces. The captain has a suite located abaft the bridge, providing easy access to operational areas.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3516 DITA) 1,549hp engines, motor yacht Maridome is capable of reaching a top speed of 16 knots, and comfortably cruises at 14 knots. With her 95,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,758 nautical miles at 12 knots.
