Design & Construction
Designed around a multi-hull aluminium hull and a GRP superstructure she features a 13m beam and a 1.8m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 690 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
The Moecca features a distinctive exterior design, setting it apart as the first superyacht with a catamaran hull form. Designed by Jon Bannenberg, the yacht's radar and antennae mast complements its unique profile. One of the primary benefits of the catamaran design is the substantial deck space, which includes a fully certified helicopter pad on the aft deck capable of handling a large Agusta 109 aircraft.
The hull design includes a pronounced bulbous bow extending forward of the waterline entry point, reducing running resistance and pitching. The central blister or nacelle under the hulls mitigates wave impact in heavy seas. The yacht's twin engine rooms, a safety feature, house MTU turbo-charged diesels and KaMeWa water jets, ensuring high cruising speeds and a shallow draught.
Oceanfast's expertise in lightweight construction is evident in the Moecca's aluminum hulls and bridge deck, and composite plastics superstructure. This results in a displacement of around 240 tonnes, significantly less than a steel vessel of similar volume. The prefabrication of major components, such as accommodation sections and engine rooms, allowed for efficient assembly.
The superstructure's design includes large, full-length windows providing panoramic views from the cabins, while the aft deck features ample space for lounging or hosting gatherings. The foredeck stores inflatables and water sports equipment, launched via cranes. The heli-pad doubles as a sun and promenade deck when not in use, equipped with safety rails, loungers, and umbrellas.
Interior Design
Moecca's interior design reflects a focus on functional elegance and efficient use of space, leveraging modern materials and thoughtful layouts. Designed by Jon Bannenberg, the yacht's interior employs a mix of high-quality materials, including rare woods such as myrtle and burr walnut. These woods are mostly used as veneers bonded to strong, lightweight F-board panels, providing both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.
The main deck aft houses the vast main saloon, which is divided into three distinct seating areas. This space includes a central U-shaped settee to port, facing a large television that offers satellite, broadcast, and video programs. The walls are adorned with two tapestries from the Victorian Tapestry Company, featuring a sea shell pattern, and four large urns representing each of the world's oceans, enhancing the nautical theme.
The dining room, situated forward of the saloon, features a large table that can seat up to 14 guests. The table is versatile, with removable leaves to adjust its size for smaller gatherings. The dining area is complemented by an abundance of timber paneling, contributing to a sense of solid comfort.
Forward on the main deck, the galley and pantry are designed for efficiency and ample size, ensuring the crew can prepare and serve meals comfortably. Adjacent to these facilities, the laundry and a multi-functional compartment can be used as a laboratory.
The wheelhouse, located half a deck up from the guest accommodations, is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and communication electronics. It is decorated with elm paneling and dark brown leather, providing both functionality and a professional aesthetic. The wheelhouse also includes a pair of comfortable sofas for visitors, allowing guests to observe operations.
Accommodation
Moecca offers accommodation for up to 12 guests across five spacious suites. This includes a notably expansive owner's suite located on the deck above the main saloon. The owner's suite features full-length windows that provide panoramic views and direct access to a large private verandah with two seating areas. Additionally, unique 'balcony decks' on either side of the suite offer private sitting spaces shielded from the wind. The suite is complemented by twin bathrooms and a dressing room.
Guest accommodation comprises four large suites positioned forward of the owner's area. These suites, located high above the waterline, are designed to maximize comfort, with large picture windows that provide ample natural light and picturesque views. Each suite includes an en suite bathroom outfitted in laser-cut Corian, which is both non-slip and durable.
Crew accommodation is thoughtfully designed to ensure comfort and efficiency. Each hull of Moecca contains two crew cabins located forward, separated by a watertight bulkhead from a double cabin that can be used for either guests or staff. The forward half of the main deck is dedicated to crew and technical spaces, featuring a large mess-deck, a galley, pantry, laundry, and a double crew cabin. Additionally, there is a compartment that can serve as a laboratory, including two berths for staff involved in such work. The captain's suite is conveniently located adjacent to the wheelhouse, providing easy access to all operational areas of the yacht.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V396TB94) engines, motor yacht Moecca is capable of reaching a top speed of 25 knots, and comfortably cruises at 20 knots. With her 82,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 3,685 nautical miles at 12 knots.
