Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement GRP hull and superstructure she features a 7.9m beam and a 1.9m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 329 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
Built in 2001 by Delta Marine, Ruffian is a 37.8m (124ft) motor yacht with strong exterior lines designed by Delta’s in-house team. She underwent a full Awlgrip HDT paint job in 2021, presenting a fresh and polished finish befitting her pedigree. The boarding arrangement includes a 4.6m (15ft) Marquipt extended passerelle, housed in a watertight compartment and retractable with a one-button system.
The cockpit sits beneath a deep aft-deck overhang, providing shade for an elegant wood dining table surrounded by armchairs. This area also includes a wet bar, gas grill and extra stowage. A curved teak staircase connects the cockpit to the upper levels, including access to the skylounge.
Up on the flybridge, guests can spread out across multiple seating areas, including two curved settees beneath a hardtop. The aft section is fitted with wicker chairs for relaxed lounging, while flip-up wing stations on both port and starboard sides assist with docking. The port-side seating area features a well-equipped wet bar with refrigeration and an ice maker.
Further aft, the upper deck offers a dinette table that seats eight, shaded by a Bimini top - an ideal setting for informal meals and panoramic views.
Interior Design
The interior of Ruffian was styled by Jonathan Quinn Barnett, who is also known for his work on the superyacht Octopus. His design has been carefully maintained and enhanced over time, with a full interior refit and service carried out at Delta Marine Shipyard in 2022 and 2023.
Entering the main salon from the cockpit, guests are welcomed by a marble-floored foyer decorated with two fossilised-wood eagle inlays. The main salon itself is warm and inviting, furnished with an L-shaped sofa and matching chairs that face a hidden HD surround-sound entertainment system. A 46-inch HD Smart TV is discreetly positioned, and large windows on either side bring in natural light while offering wide views. A built-in buffet with a glass-front display subtly separates the lounge area from the dining space, which is shaped as a hexagon and has its own integrated sound system.
The galley lies forward of the salon and is fully equipped for extended cruising or entertaining. Long countertops and a central island with stools provide ample prep and social space. High-end appliances are installed throughout, including Sub-Zero refrigeration and freezer units in stainless steel, a Wolf five-burner glass ceramic cooktop and matching double convection ovens.
Above the main deck and just aft of the pilothouse, the skylounge offers a versatile secondary living space. Large windows, fitted with remote-controlled Hunter Douglas blinds, surround a custom sofa that converts into a queen berth. A full head with shower, wet bar, refrigerator, wine cooler and ice maker make this an ideal spot for entertaining or hosting extra guests. Forward of this lounge is the enclosed helm station, designed for long-range cruising.
Accommodation
Ruffian accommodates eight guests across four staterooms, with quarters for a crew of six. The full-beam owner’s suite is located on the lower deck and features a king-size berth, a private lounge area, a writing desk and a vanity. The suite includes two bathrooms - one with a shower and the other with a Roman tub - both fitted with heated floors for added comfort.
A second king-size berth is found in the VIP stateroom, located forward on the main deck. This suite benefits from built-in stowage and large windows, as well as a spacious en suite bathroom finished in jade marble. The bathroom layout includes a skylit cylindrical shower, twin vanities and a separate toilet compartment, also with heated soles.
Two additional guest staterooms are located on the lower deck, each with its own corner settee, ensuite bathroom with heated floors, a hanging closet and built-in drawer storage. The layout is well suited for extended cruising, offering a balance of comfort and practicality for families or groups.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V 2000 M90) 1,800hp engines, motor yacht Ruffian is capable of reaching a top speed of 18 knots, and comfortably cruises at 14 knots. With her 34,826 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 3,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
