U-81 is a 80m motor yacht delivered by Dutch shipyard Damen Yachting in 2022. Her naval architecture and interior design comes from the drawing boards of Damen Yachting, while Azure Yacht Design is responsible for her exterior design.

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and superstructure she features a 16.2m beam and a 6.15m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 3,040 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

Considering its initial role as an offshore gas and oil platform, U-81's conversion into a formidable support vessel proves fitting as it cruises the Mediterranean in tandem with Amels yacht HERE COMES THE SUN (89m). The exterior design showcases utilitarian features, including a recessed aft deck and a high forebody connected to a helipad. 

The support vessel's prominent bulk is concentrated at the front, featuring a high, almost vertical bow. The superstructure is dense, with few portholes on the three decks above the main deck, which prioritizes functionality. The bridge area, housing the communication and navigation tower, boasts raked windows.

Just forward of amidships, the yacht's purpose shines with a helipad positioned over the storage area for personal watercraft, tenders, and toys. The substantial crane on the aft deck ensures secure launches for the watercraft, including a sizable chase boat with quadruple outboard engines and a hardtop. The superstructure, in white, incorporates five sets of slim diagonal windows, spanning two internal decks, creating visual interest in the side profile.

While U-81 may not boast conventional beauty, as a support vessel, it stands unrivaled in functionality.
