Nimbus set to introduce new C8 commuter yacht

The 7.93m (26.2ft) yacht will join the Nimbus Commuter series and offers an open design and a top speed in excess of 40 knots.

The new Nimbus C8 is set to premiere this summer, the Swedish builder has revealed.

The 7.93m (26.2ft) yacht has been designed as a sporty and practical dayboat. It joins the C9 and C11 in the Nimbus Commuter series.

The new model features an open, walk-around design, plenty of storage space and outboard power. Although smaller than its siblings Nimbus has tried to ensure it retains the feeling of a large boat.

"Despite the smaller size, we have prioritized space that makes it easy to get on or off and move onboard," said Joacim Gustavsson, chief designer at Nimbus Boats Sweden AB. "The trick with the C8 was to build in the same high level of functionality and flexibility as the C9 but in a smaller hull."

This is demonstrated by a foredeck that features a multi-functional area with seating that can be transformed into lounging or driving-mode. The cockpit has large glass doors, a sliding glass roof hatch and an openable aft deck hatch to create the feeling of an extra light and spacious cabin, and it also allows the boat to be transformed from closed to open in a matter of seconds.

On the aft deck there is space for around four to five people and side benches and a foldable aft sofa, that can also act as a luggage rack. The sofa can also be converted to an extra bed for two children or an adult and there is also a forward cabin with space for a double bed, separate head and a kitchenette.

Mercury Verado V8 engines give a top speed of over 40 knots and a cruising speed in around the 30-knot range.

The Nimbus C8 looks set to be another example of the small-to-medium-sized boats the Scandinavian builder has become known for. They have also pioneered a number of innovations over recent years such as the Smart Speed hull form, which runs efficiently and rides comfortably at any speed up to 22 knots, without a planing threshold and an asymmetrical deck layout.
