The 62nd edition of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show (FLIBS) is, once again, set to attract the biggest and best names in the superyachting world when it returns from 27 to 31 October.
With the world’s largest shipyards bringing some of their flagship offerings to the show, here we handpick five show-stealing superyachts that will be on display.
AVANTI (61m/200ft)
Builder: Lurssen
With her uniquely styled interiors and immense spaces of open deck Lurssen’s 61m (200ft) superyacht AVANTI will turn many heads at FLIBS.
Delivered in 2004, the five-deck superyachts features interiors and exteriors from renowned British studio Winch Design. The French Deco interiors, in particular, catch the eye offering a French take on the American Art Deco movement. Attention to detail is paramount with detailed stonework featuring thirty different stones from Antelli stonecutters in Verona.
Space is in abundance everywhere from the two-story Owner’s suite to the forward salon with an illuminated ceiling that soars to up to 4m (13ft) high.
BOARDWALK (76.5m/251ft)
Builder: Feadship
At 76.5m (251ft) Feadship’s superyacht BOARDWALK will be one of the very largest on display at FLIBS and is another fully custom design of the very highest quality from the Dutch yard.
Delivered only this year details of the 1,848GT are still scarce, but her classic lines and sharp profile were on display earlier this year when she was captured undertaking her sea trials. Also evident were a number of expansive deck areas and her helicopter landing pad.
BOARDWALK looks set to be one of five Feadship yachts at FLIBS. She will be joined by 49.45m (162ft) HIGHLANDER, 46.63m (153ft) EXCELLENCE, 42.67m (140ft) ‘Never Enough’ and 26m (85ft) IMPETUOUS.
Dorothea III (44.8m/148ft)
Builder: Cheoy Lee
Cheoy Lee’s 44.8m (148ft) explorer yacht ‘Dorothea III’ took home the Voyager’s Award at the World Superyacht Awards in 2020 and when you look at her impressive pedigree it is easy to see why!
Initially delivered in 2007, Dorothea III was purchased by new owners in 2011 and then, in the space of ten years, she put 200,000nm under her keel. This saw her visit 70 countries and cross the Atlantic Ocean four times and the South Pacific five times. Throughout her epic trip, Dorothea III’s Owner and crew also raised funds for charity and distributed humanitarian aid.
The motor yacht has some unique touches, she is fitted with a single 1,911hp Caterpillar 3512B engine to enhance her fuel economy and almost half of her space is dedicated to crew operations. Captain John Crupi, who has been at the helm of Dorothea III for the past decade certainly wasn’t overstating things when he said “she has been the ultimate explorer yacht in every facet of the term”.
MOCA (63.5m/208ft)
Builder: Benetti
Built-in 2015 and refitted earlier this year, 63.5m (208ft) superyacht MOCA will be the largest of six motor yachts by esteemed Italian yard Benetti on display at FLIBS.
Adorned with masses of outdoor living space, large panoramic windows that ensure the beautiful interiors are flooded with natural light and accommodation for up to 14 guests across seven cabins, MOCA is another class-leading superyacht by Benetti.
She will also be joined at the show by 44.8m (147ft) HOM, another Benetti superyacht that picked up numerous award wins and nominations on her launch in 2011.
SHABBY (38.2m/125ft)
Builder: Azimut
Fresh from her world debut at Cannes, Azimut’s flagship superyacht SHABBY, is now set to turn heads in the Americas when she brings her unique “three decks, plus one” concept to FLIBS.
SHABBY is the inaugural Azimut Grande Trideck model, with the 38.2m (125ft) superyacht delivered to her Owner just a few months ago. She features a unique raised aft deck in the stern, which creates a unique sea view terrace, giving the yacht a fourth terrace in addition to the sun deck, upper deck and beach club.
Such is the popularity of the model a second hull has been delivered and a further nine are in build and set to be handed over by the end of 2023.
SHABBY is part of a five-strong presence for Azimut at Fort Lauderdale, which also includes 36m (118ft) SHALIMAR and the 26.1m (86ft) Grande 25 Metri NOMAD, also making her debut.
FLIBS is the world’s largest-in water boat show and showcases more world and US debuts than any other boat show in the USA. Hundreds of boats will be on display ranging from 2m runabouts to 70m plus superyachts hosted at the Superyacht Village.
