On Deck

Upon stepping onto the yacht, there is a rod holder, often called a 'rocket launcher', for offshore fishing rods.  Also there are rod holders dotted around the open cockpit rails. There is a small raised viewing platform with seating situated behind all of the action.

Ascendeding to the flybridge, this has a classic layout for a sportsfisher with a helm at the back. There is a big hardtop overhead, huge screens for navigation, and a configurable captain’s chair. The flybridge also featured screens that could enclose the area during inclement weather.  Ladders at the back take you up to a very high 'tuna tower' from which you can drive the boat looking for fish.

Interior

Moving on to the interior of the yacht, the saloon area has been designed to the owner's taste. There is high-gloss teak, a classic sports fishing feature, that gives the place a classy vibe. A stand-out feature was the bar, especially when backlit.

The yacht was equipped with fridges, a sink, and a hob. It is noted that Hatteras offers a lot of different options in terms of layouts and that they will pretty much fit in whatever the owner wants.

Descending to the lower deck, there is a tackle room that epitomizes the boat. Designed as a big wet room, it could be hosed down at the end of a day's fishing, including the fishing gear and even the fisher themselves. This is a practical and thoughtful design.

In the master cabin, the lighting, the separate shower stall in the ensuite, and ample storage space are highlighted. Further on, there is even more rod storage, a bunk cabin, a laundry room, and a guest cabin, all beautifully finished out in high-gloss teak.

Performance

The access to the engine room is cleverly hidden under a cockpit seat. Inside is a pair of Caterpillar 1,900 horsepower diesel engines, enabling the yacht to reach speeds of over 40 knots. This was a neat and well-organized engine space, with accessible filters, and tidy wiring and plumbing.

In Summary

Summing up his tour, Nick expressed his admiration for the Hatteras GT59, calling it a "proper piece of Americana" and a "fabulous boat." He appreciated the thoughtfulness and customization options that went into the design, as well as the practicality and efficiency of the layout and features. He was captivated by its beauty, instantly taken by its unique style, which is different from the boats he usually reviews.
