On Deck

The yacht's design, which includes two narrow hulls, reduces drag resistance and provides a significant amount of space. Particularly appreciated are the vast side decks and the accessible galley that opens up to a side sitting area. Also highlighted are the solar panels spread across the yacht, which can generate up to 10 kilowatt peak power in ideal conditions.

The yacht's flybridge is another highlight, particularly because it can be lowered to create a flat deck covered entirely in solar panels. Despite the grey day during his tour, Nick notes that the yacht's battery capacity increased, which he finds remarkable.

Interior

Through to the yacht's interior, there is a galley and saloon area. The yacht has an excellent capacity for storage, an essential feature given the boat's ability to stay at anchor for extended periods due to its self-generating power.

The lower helm, which lacks a steering wheel and is instead controlled by a small rudder, is another interesting feature. He also showcases the yacht's four ensuite double cabins, each with their own stairway access point.  The master cabin is unusual in that the bed is raised up to provide even more storage.

Performance

The solar-powered yacht has three 70 kilowatt hour battery banks, which power the entire boat, and the 250 kilowatt engines. While the yacht can reach speeds of 17 knots, it operates most efficiently at six to eight knots. At four knots, the yacht uses six kilowatts per hour, meaning it can effectively run indefinitely in sunny conditions as the solar panels generate the same amount of power.

In Summary

Nick concludes the tour by expressing his satisfaction with finally being able to showcase the Silent Yachts Silent 55, a yacht he sees as impressive due to its solar power capabilities.
