The Galeon 560 Skydeck is a modern sportsbridge yacht, mixing sports yacht and flybridge style for a versatile mix of deck lifestyle, split over two levels, sporty looks and a spacious three-cabin interior. Built in Poland and designed for cruising, the 560 Skydeck has a planing hull powered by twin pod drives delivering a 30-knot top speed. The French-built Prestige 590S is another modern sportsbridge design. Focused on cruising, it offers a similar three-cabin layout and pod drives delivering close to 30 knots. The larger yacht overall, the Prestige offers a very comparable level of deck and interior space.

Performance

These two fast planing yachts run on pod drives, with around 30knots on tap and fast-cruising at 23-25knots. The Galeon uses Volvo Penta IPS drives, with power ranging from 670hp - 925hp. The twin 725hp IPS D11 option delivers the quoted 30-knot top speed, the highest-rated 925hp option is expected to get close to 35knots. The Prestige uses Cummins QSC 592hp engines on Zeus drives, and although down on the Galeon’s power still manages to keep pace at 29knots. Where these two yachts differ is on range. Although having the same fuel tank capacities, at 2200lt (484gl), the Galeon claims a range of 363nm at 25 knots while the Prestige quotes 270nm at 23knots.

Interior

These are two voluminous and highly accommodating yachts. Both have galley aft layouts with optional dining areas, the salons are then a short step up, to provide headroom for the owners’ cabin below. There is an excellent level of space and luxury in what are cool but relaxing salons featuring facing lounge seating, pop-up TVs and spectacular overhead sunroofs. What sets the Galeon apart is the amount of glass worked in. It’s not that the Prestige has small windows, they are impressively big, it is more that the 560 Skydeck’s salon appears to be made of glass with huge sections reaching up and even over. More impressive, some of this glass drops away, really opening up the salon with the sunroof deployed.

Accommodation

The Owners’ cabins are both found amidship and are full-beam, flanked by hull windows. Space and headroom are both good, with ensuites set forward and space for a small lounge and plenty of cabinetry. While the Galeon has a conventional forward lobby, giving access to all three cabins, the Prestige Owner will enjoy private access to their cabin just off the salon entrance, a practical, big-boat option.

Helm Station

As sportsbridge yachts, the Galeon and Prestige have raised helm positions to enjoy their 30-knot performance. Both upper decks feel dedicated to driving, with central helm positions bordered by guest seating. There is space for a single MFD screen on both helm consoles, which are fairly basic in design, with the main navigational station below. The lower helm stations feature clean, modern consoles but the Galeon takes it to a different level with its glass-encased spaceship-like design. Visually and stylistically impressive, the amount of glass used delivers the far more important factor of superb visibility and creates the feel of a near-open helm with the sunroof and side glass deployed. The Prestige still has good visibility from its lower helm and the bonus of a side door, offering immediate deck access.

Deck Areas

At this length, you might expect to see a forward cockpit, but neither yacht manages the feat. Instead, you have a basic sunpad, although the Prestige has a neat pop-up table. With the sportsbridges limited on space and very much about enjoying the ride, the main social area is the aft cockpit with a dining table and seating served by the salon’s galley aft layout. The Prestige’s cockpit seating pushes back into a sunpad, with an overhang above the hydraulic swim platform. This is removed if the tender garage is optioned.

Flybridge

With big sunroofs forward and the styling kept sleek and low, both of these sportsbridge are kept minimal in size and scope. The Galeon’s bridge is accessed via an easy moulded-in stairwell with a surround of seating and sun pad options up top, served by a small wet bar and fridge. The Prestige features an architectural stainless steel and teak ladder to take you up top, with the central helm seat surrounded by seats and a deeper sunpad seat aft.

Compare Layouts

With very similar three-cabin galley-aft layouts, the main differences across the stern The Galeon has a twin crew cabin aft that would make a very useful overflow guest quarters with its neat ensuite. The Prestige has a single berth crew cabin aft, which can be swapped for a tender garage, that in turn affects the cockpit seating above, doing away with the sunpad.
