Delivered in 2006, Dubai is a 162m motor yacht built by Emirati shipyard Platinum Yachts. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Winch Design, while Blohm + Voss is responsible for her naval architecture.

Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement w/ bulbous bow steel hull and a steel/aluminium superstructure she features a 22m beam and a 5m draft. The yacht is built over 7 decks with an internal volume of 12,488 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
Construction started in mid 1997 with the keel laid under the project name 'Platinum'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in June 1998 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in October 2006.
Exterior Design
Dubai's prominent exterior includes its powerful shape and commanding presence, which is instantly recognizable from a distance.
The yacht's design incorporates features that have all but disappeared from modern yachts, such as a tapering stern with tumble-home topsides. The yacht's exterior is designed with broad decks on every level, offering expansive views of the surrounding seascape. The decks also provide room for guest suites with private verandas, creating an atmosphere of exclusivity and privacy.
The yacht's exterior is finished with the highest quality materials, ensuring it maintains its appearance in the harshest of marine environments. The vessel's robust hull is constructed from welded steel.
Interior Design
On entry, guests are greeted by an enormous atrium that spans four decks, culminating in a skylight above. The centerpiece is a breathtaking spiral staircase, a masterpiece designed by Mike Jordan and crafted in Germany. It combines gleaming stainless steel with internally lit, glass stairs that change color, illuminating the structure in a dynamic dance of light.
The floor of the atrium showcases sweeping patterns made up of hundreds of vibrant glass mosaic tiles, a decorative motif that recurs throughout the yacht. Aft of the hall, the main formal saloon is arranged in Majilis style, with seating groups oriented towards a large central area. This seating arrangement is punctuated by a giant circular sofa and table. The main dining room is another expansive space, accommodating up to 80 guests at a series of small circular tables. The washrooms serving this dining room are a work of art in their own right, featuring hand-blown glass bowls standing on pillars of gold and purple glass mosaic.
The guest cabins and public spaces are a riot of color and patterns, with a rich palette of wood, stone, fabrics, colored glass, and vibrant carpets used in the interior decor. The modern furniture in strong primary colors and flat wood paneling broken by contrasting shadow lines add a contemporary touch to the rooms.
Accommodation
Dubai has 44 guest cabins, a significant increase from the original 36 cabins. Each cabin is designed with a contemporary style, featuring modern furniture in vibrant primary colours and flat wood panelling broken by contrasting shadow lines. The cabins are of various types to cater to different guest needs. The yacht houses five VIP suites on Deck 6, each featuring a generous lounge in addition to the bedroom. French windows in these suites open onto a spacious veranda deck, providing a spectacular view of the surrounding sea.
On Deck 5, Dubai features six large and 10 standard double cabins. The large cabins offer a spacious area for guests to relax and unwind, while the standard double cabins provide a comfortable and intimate space. This deck also houses a doctor’s room for any medical needs and a large informal lounge that opens onto the pool deck.
The owner's suite, initially planned for the aft section of Deck 6, now occupies the forward part of Decks 7 and 8 in a split-level layout. This repositioning has allowed for an even more spacious and luxurious suite, offering the owner an unparalleled level of comfort and privacy.
The yacht also includes accommodation for a crew of up to 88, with the capacity to house an additional 27 personal staff, making it possible to maintain the highest level of service and upkeep for the vessel and its guests. The crew includes five engineers, four engine ratings, five electricians, and two IT specialists, demonstrating the remarkable level of attention devoted to keeping the yacht’s operations running smoothly.
Performance & Capabilities
Dubai is powered by four 7,000kW MTU 20V engines, propelling the yacht to an impressive maximum speed of 25 knots, exceeding the original specification. Dubai is typically operated at a cruising speed of around 20 knots, balancing speed and efficiency. The four-engine, twin-screw arrangement also allows for economic running on just two engines, effectively doubling the yacht's endurance from two to four weeks.
Dubai is also well-equipped to handle long voyages, with a fuel capacity of a staggering 1,250,000 liters. This considerable capacity provides a range of 8,500 nautical miles at 25 knots, ensuring that this luxury yacht can undertake extended voyages without the need for frequent refueling.
In terms of maneuverability, Dubai is fitted with a 400kW Brunvoll bow thruster, enhancing control and precision during navigation. Meanwhile, retractable fin Blohm + Voss Simplex Compact 500 stabilizers ensure a smooth and comfortable ride for all on board, even in challenging sea conditions.
The electrical requirements of the yacht are formidable, fulfilled by four generators of 800kW each, of which three are typically on load. When berthed, Dubai consumes about 900kW of shore power, demonstrating the substantial energy demands of the vessel.
Leisure & Entertainment
Dubai houses a real swimming pool containing 110 tonnes of water. At the aft end, the water cascades over and splashes down a two-deck-high waterfall. The floor of the pool is decorated with an elaborate seascape in which small fish, with illuminated Swarovski crystal eyes, are chased by big fish.
A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. Rest and relaxation can be achieved on board, thanks to a luxury spa. In addition, full cinema facilities ensure five-star entertainment and a swim platform provides easy access to the ocean. A dancefloor, where her owner and their guests can enjoy party nights. Dubai also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off.
Amenities
The yacht is equipped with a helideck, allowing for easy access by air. Additionally, Dubai carries two fast Pascoe tenders, launched sideways from the main deck aft.
