Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium / teak superstructure she features a 20'9" beam and a 11'10" draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 278 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Launched in April 1906 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in June 1906.
Exterior Design
The hull of the Kalizma, painted in black, contrasts with the rich varnished woods that accentuate her superstructure. This color scheme not only reflects her historical significance but also adds to the aura of luxury that surrounds her. The teak decks have been meticulously restored and maintained.
The brass details throughout the yacht, including the original brass bell, serve as a reminder of Kalizma's prestigious heritage. These elements, coupled with the hand-crafted ropes and hardware, provide a sense of the yacht's navigational history and her resilience through the ages.
The top deck has been thoughtfully transformed into an expansive lounge area. The outdoor areas are further enhanced by deep blue accessories that complement the white backdrop, adding a touch of contemporary elegance to the yacht's classic charm.
Interior Design
The interior design of the Kalizma seamlessly marries the yacht's storied past with contemporary luxury, creating an atmosphere of timeless elegance that is both welcoming and regal. As one steps inside, the attention to detail is immediately apparent, with the refit meticulously honoring the vessel's heritage while infusing modern touches that elevate the onboard experience.
The main salon sets the tone for the opulent journey guests embark upon, with its use of grey shades, champagne white, and neutral tones. These subtle, refined colors provide a canvas for vibrant accents to shine, such as the violet hues inspired by Elizabeth Taylor's eyes, adding depth and character to the space.
Italian artisans and renowned brands, such as Palazzo Morelli, have contributed their expertise to the yacht's interior, providing beautifully textured fabrics and intricate details. Brasswork, handmade ropes, and the ship's original brass bell serve as a nod to Kalizma's rich maritime heritage, while the custom bar counter, featuring the yacht's coat of arms, stands as a proud centerpiece.
The gallery wall adorned with black-and-white portraits of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor serves as a poignant reminder of the yacht's golden era. These images, coupled with the ship's rejuvenated interiors, ensure that the legend of Kalizma remains vibrantly alive, inviting guests to be a part of her ongoing story.
Accommodation
Kalizma's layout ensures that up to ten guests are accommodated in style across her five cabins, each one a testament to the yacht's rich heritage. The owner's suite, located on the main deck forward, features custom-made furniture and a new lighting system that creates an intimate mood, perfect for unwinding after a day of ocean adventure. The master cabin has been completely refreshed, with refined details and sophisticated pieces from Italian artisans, ensuring that every element aligns with the yacht's classic nautical theme.
Below deck, guests will find a full-width suite equipped with a refurbished bathroom that includes a shower with gold fittings. This bathroom is shared with another double cabin. Additionally, this area includes a study, providing a quiet space for work or relaxation.
