Discussions spark union rumours
In what has initially been viewed as an unusual partnership, a possible union of Ferretti and Wally is attracting attention as an initiative which may take place at the beginning of 2019.
Reported by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, the negotiations between the two brands have confirmed speculation that a union may be about to occur.
Known for its avant-garde design and revolutionary technology, Wally announced an 83m Sea Explorer concept last year which features design work from Andrew Winch and Nobiskrug. This concept follows on from the Wally tender and Wallyace power ranges.
In addition to access to the large sailing yacht sector, Wally has an impressive client database including names like the entrepreneur Andrea Recordati and former L'Oreal chairman Lindsay Owen Jones. This clientele and subsequent broader client base make a great foothold for Ferretti and would potentially pave the way for a broader and revolutionary future in the yachting market.
Complications of the negotiations spark from the fact that Wally have no dedicated shipyard of their own. The brand's latest build, Wally 145, is currently in construction at the Persico Marine facility in Massa Carrara. Ferretti are actively seeking a shipyard to accommodate their builds of maxi yachts but this is something that the possible new acquisition cannot bring to the table.
Wally being for sale has been a rumour circling for some time but Ferretti are the only brand in Italy who have the financial support to contemplate the asking price of 25 - 30 million Euros.
An announcement and further details are expected to be shared at the upcoming Cannes Yachting Festival.
